Ponies/toys in the basement
« on: May 03, 2013, 07:21:10 AM »
Is it ok to display ponies/plastic toys in a basement. It doesn't have any temperature regulation. So it's probably a bit damp. The room in question is dry, but the area next to the room (which doesn't have a door) has been known to leak a bit.

I have a feeling it's not the best environment for them, but maybe I'm over thinking it.

I have mine in my basement and have had no issues at all. My basement does stay cool cause its not finished all the way yet.

I do not see a problem with it. But then that is just me.

If you suspect it's damp, I wouldn't. Even high humidity in the air, even if the room seems dry, could cause mold.

Ditto.

If you have a finished basement with no dampness its ok, otherwise I would not advise it.

Yeah, I wouldn't store them in a damp/humid basement.

I would only store them in a humid enviroment with a de-humidifier in the room!  :)

It's damp and leaky, I would avoid it.

My childhood toys (including ponies) spent MANY years in storage, not displayed in the basement. All of them are fine but it has remained dry and cold down there.

): Thanks all.

Is there any scientific way to monitor how damp a room is? Maybe I'm just assuming. But as I said, the second room has been known to leak. And only during REALLY bad rainstorms.
The room I am thinking of is carpeted, and it doesn't seem damaged or anything (after 10+ years of being half finished). But I'm totally paranoid, due to it being next to a room with an issue.

Oh, it's not anywhere I live atm. It's my childhood home, that I hope one day to own (within the next 5~8 years). Since it's tiny, I feel forced to downsize... but if things can go in the basement, then I wouldn't have to downsize so drastically.
