she reminds me of Majesty (G1) with that hair, I think it's a little darker than Majesty's but the white body makes it look very similar even with the wings :)

Those are ponies that are "factory seconds".  Except there are far too many to be true errors coming off the line.  Most G4 sold on Taobao/directly from China are stolen merchandise.  The workers make extras and take them home to sell.

Not the best way to support Hasbro but if you don't care to line their pockets with money, there is always the "greymarket" of these ponies.

Actually Taobao sellers normally source their items direct from the factory - not "stolen" by workers. Most Chinese workers live and work on their factory complex not getting home to family for months and months at a time due to home being hours and perhaps days travel away from the industrial zones. It doesnt work the way we are perhaps used to in Western Europe and the US.

Chinese factories are completely 3rd party companies - they can be contracted by companies to manufacture their products but often they can be manufacturing for multiple businesses at the same time. Factories often end up with piles of rejected or unusable stock which they have to get rid of - they sell this on in bulk to resellers. Remember that Taobao does not operate outside of China - sellers are not supposed to sell their products outside of China - and the products which the factories are selling to re sellers is for items which are not sold in their market, hence why Hasbro are not actually loosing out. We all use the get around of Taobao agents in order to by pass this.

Yes, its quite possible she does have the plastic in her hair. Its probably that she has come off the factory line, ready to be boxed and then been rejected as she is incorrect. So she would have her hair grip in place. I do believe most of the different haired ponies we see are factory errors...but that's all just a mistake during production.

And as egyption says, the other possibility is it was a hair colour test.

There was another recent thread on this same pony but I cant find it to be honest - here is a reference however in a different thread when others were discussing having spotted the listing before it sold out. http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,326177.msg695580.html#msg695580

I totally agree hathorcat.. The one on tobbao doesn't seem to have the plastic threaded in her hair but the one from the ebay auction for sure does so I guess that confirms she is real but
like you said who knows what she was for. I think testing is likely.

Since they are factory errors and not sold by Hasbro, they have no COA or other documentation, which to me lessens there value long term.  I totally get folks buy em for the love it, not an investment but with out that proof who is to say they will not be questioned down the line as someone rehairing a pony (or changing heads) to make more money.  Plus as much as we all would like to think we shall have them forever, we are sadly only there keepers for a short time.  Plus you never know Hasbro may see one of these selling really well and the next thing you know she is a regular release pony.

Yeah, that auction ended at a crazy price. I found her on Taobao awhile back and she was listed for around $15 dollars. I still can't believe she went for over $50. But I found her relisted on taobao and ordered her about a week ago. Sadly her price went up on Taobao too for around $25. I to believe she was a color tester for Chrysalis but who knows...she's just pretty to me

You cant always trust a Taobao picture. Sellers often take hair grips out or ponies out of sealed factory bags in order to picture them. For example, when I did that large Taobao order, I had 52 SkyWishes from 2 different sellers, in the pictures the ponies had their hair loose, when they arrived with me one set was all loose but the others all had the plastic in their hair and their rubber band in their hair as well. So its possible the ones on Taobao likewise had hair plastic but the seller has removed them for the image.
