Re-rooting
« on: April 04, 2013, 04:35:24 AM »
Hi!!

I am thinking of doing my first re-root. Should I use Nylon or Saran?? Is there a difference??

Thanks in advance for the help

Nylon curls super easy. It holds curls a long time. Its what MLP has.

Saran does not curl well, and does not hold curls well. It has a slightly greasy feel to it at times. It works best or straight hairstyles. A lot of MH dolls have saran or kankelon.

I just finished my first reroot, and i used nylon. Im very happy with it and i feel it gives me more styling options.

Ok so nylon would be a better choice then. Thanks Maniah

I've done two reroots so far and I've used nylon in both of them. It's supposed to be one of the easiest types to use. So far I'm satisfied, it feels good and it straightens quite easily when you put it under hot water. I haven't used saran yet, but read that it was difficult to curl.

use saran if you want to use what a Monster High doll looks like.  That's what they use primarily.  I used Saran for my first reroot and was happy with it. I needed straight hair though.

The thing to remember with saran is that heat does not shape it very well. So if you rehair with it, you need to use very thin plugs so the hair will lay flat. Thick plugs will stick out from the side of the head and give the doll an unfinished, untamed look. You wont be able to use boiling water to tame it either.

Nylon just lets you skip all that hassle. Nylon seems a bit shinier than saran though.

I think I will go with nylon then. it seems to be the easier option as it is my first re-root and I would be upset if it turned out funny and I couldn't tame it with hot water.

Thanks for the help guys
