French Abbey?
« on: May 29, 2013, 09:12:57 AM »
Okay I've been staring with want a MH for quite a while, but have never gotten any dolls because they've always been a bit on the steep side.

But today I ended up at my local TK Maxx which is a bargain clothes chain and it turns out they sell toys, and I found myself a picture day Abbey for quite cheap so she came home with me.
But it seems that she is actually a French version which I didn't notice until I took a closer look at her box.

So, is there really any difference or is it just a case of 'same doll, different language box?'

Same doll different language I'd wager. A lot of the 'cheaper' stores in the UK (TK Maxx, Poundland, The Factory Shop) often have toy lines with foreign labels (which are sometimes just stuck over the english language box printing). I had some G3s with Japanese labels once and have a little Winnie the Pooh blind box figure not usually seen outside Italy.

True, I found some little dolls in my local Poundstretcher that seemed to be Spanish in origin, and I've noticed a lot of the bargain stores do seem to get in stuff that's from 'mainland' Europe fairly often, like I've seen it with some of the confectionary they stock.

Yep, she's the exact same doll, the only difference is the packaging  ^.^ There's a few different kinds of packaging with varying languages depending on what region it was originally intended for. In Canada, we get the 4-language packaging style (English/French/Spanish/Portuguese) but at our bargain/selloff stores we'll sometimes see American versions with English-only packaging, for example. :)

Congrats on your new Abbey! I love her Picture Day version, she's gorgeous

Thanks :)
Other doll I really want to get is Rochelle, (I'll say that and you know what will happen XD)

Yeah the only problem I have is her diary is in French too so I can't read it. XD

 The first doll is the gateway drug, for sure! But Rochelle is Best Dolly, you definitely need her  ^.^

Yeah, the international diaries are frustrating! The MH wiki has the English versions. I don't think there's anything for the Picture Day fearbooks, though. :(

Why thank you :P

One thing I do love about MH already is how easy they are to debox. I remember having Barbies when I was younger that you basically needed to the jaws of life to so you could get them out of the box.
