Get yourself a pair of hemostat pliers.  I find them in the fishing section of Walmart.

Have band-aids nearby when using an exacto knife.

I cut my finger pretty good one time and was lucky we had them close. Thankfully it wasn't as deep as I expected.

For me it was a phone and 911. I cut into my hand so bad I almost passed out. lol
