Quick Gem Question
« on: June 07, 2013, 08:25:40 PM »
Okay snagged some super small 1 and 1.5mm "gems" off ebay.  Not too bad for acrylic gems but man super small.  That got me looking for tools to pick them up and get in place with.  Saw a few on ebay and was wondering those of you who use gems regularly do you use any of the "sticky" type of gem setters and if so what one did you like and what ones where a waste of money.

Thanks!

I use a little set of sticks and each one has a ball of beeswax on the end. So far I've been very happy with the way they work. The wax is just sticky enough to lift the gem without making it difficult to place. Sometimes they leave a little wax residue but it wipes right off with a dry clock once the gems are placed.

I knew they existed but had not tried them.  After having gems go on the floor more then once on my recent swap pony I decided I had enough of that and I would go find em.  Found three styles on ebay and was wondering which if anyone had used was better then another.  Figured you guys would be good to ask since so many of you use gems.  The two that looked best where both by the same company - Beadsmith.  One is Magical Pick w/ Cleaning Kit Flatback Pick Up Tool Rhinestones the other is there Pick Up Tool Jewel Setter Perfect Positioner Wax Stick.  That one is the less expensive choice.

ETA did some more looking and found a mini version of the cheaper one and it looks to be the perfect size for working with the smaller gems so gonna snag one and shall let you guys know how it goes.

I have used them in the past but tend to loose them or use them for other things LOL so I just lick my fingertip and pick it up with that :)

I rarely use gems and when I do I tend to just use  my nails or tweasers or something else random that seems like it'll work at the time.
