Not sure what to think.
« on: February 06, 2013, 03:16:28 PM »
Shipped out a MH Doll to a member over seas with a fashion pack / the items it comes with in sandwich bags inside the package. Person received the package and notified me the fashion pack was missing. I returned the message stating that there should be two sandwich bags one with the normal items and fashion pack items. Person then claimed the other bag was not in there and didn't realize it. So now both bags are apparently missing. I just find it odd the person did not say the other items were missing until I pointed it out that there were two little sandwich bags.

I am not trying to stir the pot. I offered a $9.00 refund. Which I think is quite fair considering the price of the fashion pack and the other items that are missing. Does this seem fair? I mailed out other packages that day and everyone got theirs no problem in tact and some were even over seas as well. I think after this though I may rethink who I sell to, where I sell to (if I will sell to over seas people). I also said she could return the doll at her cost for shipping and I would issue a full refund minus shipping.

Either way we are both losing out and I think the $9.00 is the more fair approach but it sounds like she may not accept it. I have searched high and low and every place in between and those items are NOT here anywhere. I have sent out a message to the other over seas person I mailed stuff to but she hasn't got back to me and I am pretty sure she would have said something if she got some extra stuff (either it be in shock or oops did you make a booboo).

She says the package did not look opened by customs. Meh I have a lot on my plate and don't need more so any advice would be great.

I would wait to hear back from your other buyer, just to be sure.  But by the sounds of it you are pretty positive of what you sent.  And if the package was not tampered with by customs or damaged during shipping it would make one wonder where the items are??  But as there is noway to really prove that she didn't receive the items,  I think that offering a refund for what is missing is fair at this point.

I am curious though is your buyer a new member, and how is his or her feedback?

No feedback but has a decent amount of posts. Unless they had purchased some items at the same time we were doing transactions. I have done trades here with some newer people before and had no problems until now because I tend to be more understanding since I was in that place when I first started to do trades/sales.

Is it possible that customs opened it and she just can't tell where they opened it or they opened it where she did? Aren't they suppose to mark the package? I called my local post office to inquire about it and the woman apparently thought I was accusing her of it. I told her no I was wondering if customs could open it and not post. She said they are suppose to mark on there but she has known them to skip out on marking it properly some times (that's coming into the US).

I live in Australia, and I have had quiet a few parcels tampered with by customs. Personally I am pretty sure you would know if they had tampered with the box, generally by ripping it open with their bare hands / teeth or something, then doing a crap job of taping it back up. I don't know if all countries customs are like this, but those boarder patrol shows that show them being gentle with the little exacto knives - I laugh so hard. They are never that gentle with any of my parcels they have opened.

Being a newbie, who knows. If they have a trade count of 0, you don't know who you are dealing with. See if your other buyer possibly wound up with some "extras" in their parcel :)

I really hope you get this worked out!  I remember reading a post about an Ebay seller who VIDEO TAPES each parcel they package up so they have a record of what goes into each package and how it was packaged up to try and prevent something like this happening to them.  At the time it sounded a little paranoid to me, but the more stories I hear like this I might consider it, especially on overseas items or high value items.

Its a toughie situation :(  it is completely possible that customs have opened the box and left out some parts , and still taped it up good , and didnt mark it  (i had a parcel opened up by customs and put back together so well on the outside that I almost thought they hadnt messed with it until i saw some of the inner packaging! - they hadnt marked it as being opened either). Its also possible that your other buyer got something by mistake , so its best to wait and hear from her just to make sure .  Or ... well unfortunately with newbies you do take a risk - if they dont have feedback you dont really know what kind of buyer they are.
Unless your other buyer gets back to you and has recieived something by mistake, then there is no way really to prove what else happened, so giving a refund for the missing items is the only thing you can do at this point :awake:

So... she opened a box and got a nude doll. And both packs of clothes were missing? Plus she wants to return the nude doll for a full refund? Yeah, I don't buy it.

She is fine with the $9.00 refund. The doll had on her normal clothes. Just the extras that come with it like the purse/notebook/diary/brush and a pair of pants I had extra and thrown in were in one sandwich bag and the other sandwich bag had the fashion pack items in it. The other overseas buyer contacted me and she confirmed what I knew - I didn't miss send it and she is extremely trustworthy and honest. So no clue where it is. I have scoured the whole house, the car, and every where in between. I am super frustrated right now about where they went to. they were taped together so I don't understand how they just vanished. I try to use special tape when I mail most of the time but I did use normal tape and some special tape because I was running low.

It's rather disappointing that the items just vanished.

But you did the right thing honoring the refund. Because as I mentioned before I don't know what else there is to do to prove they were sent. I suppose you could make mention in her feedback that doll arrived but items seemed to disappear in transit. Or something along those lines so there is record of it if it does happen again.

$9.00 refund has been issued haven't heard back from her since. I guess that's a good thing.
