Ponies and Windows?
« on: February 12, 2013, 01:38:17 PM »
I just re-arranged my bedroom and I have this nice, big shelf by the window that is screaming for ponies! The sunlight only comes in an hour or two a day through that window, usually right before dusk. So...is this a bad place for my ponies, or is it time to go to work on some risers and move the herd in?

I am going to put curtains on the window, btw. Cotton, not sheer or see through, so that will cut down almost all of the light.

Thanks for your opinions! :)

Even two hours a day is enough for damage. You should see the damage to my Polly pocket boxhouse things. I didn't even open the curtains too much! *shudder* I feel bad about it, but after seeing teal go brown, and finally getting a good way to display my ponies, I decided not to open my curtains anymore (except maybe a little during certain times of day when the sun faces AWAY from my good stuff.) If I want sunlight, I just go to a different room or outside. It's working out surprisingly well.

Edit: Oh yes, you mentioned a curtain too. I imagine if that's closed all the time, you'd have no problem putting ponies there.

I have witnessed the damage of Sun on color!  I had this porcelain doll with the most beautiful Red hair and I stored them in front of my window .. needless to say she became blonde after a while... -_- Broke my heart..

and I see a lot of Sun-bleached pink ponies out there.

i have  some  ponys in front of my window buti have color blocking purple curtians up.  and  i  even went so far ad to   saftey pint hem togehter and then   i use   thumbtacs to  put the edges of the curtians onto the wall wher alittle bit of sun was coming through.  so that  no sun comes through. so  if you ptu them there make sure the curtians are  up.

I agree witg everyone. My mom is a doll collector and has all the windows in the house covered if the dolls are anywhere near them..and that pretty much is every single window lol. My parents place is like a dungeon it is so dark..all because of the dolls. I

Oh dear, I had no idea the sun could cause so much damage...Normally I keep my ponies out of its direct rays, but my two little Glimmer Wing ponies have been keeping me company all day on the window ledge :( I suppose I should move them before anything happens to my little beauties.

I agree with others - dont put them in front of a window. :) Even the smallest amount of sunlight will fade a pony - remember its not the light per se but the UV which causes the problem so it can get to even sheltered locations. I have a Milkweek and Tumbleweed pushed right to the back of a shelf, always in shadow, in the pony room which has one window with black out blinds and the other one with constantly closed curtains and the room is on the shady side of the house, not to mention in Scotland we have a very low UV level...yet their hair has faded a little.

The speed with which the chemical will break down and bleach is super fast and even a couple of hours a day will certainly cause damage.

Thanks for the information guys! I'm thinking that I want to move the shelves around a bit now, so there's no sunlight touching my pretties! :D
