An Article about online Hair dye
« on: January 30, 2013, 09:24:02 PM »
I dunno who here would use this site, but I actually found it to be really interesting and I might actually do it since hair dye is hard to get the right shade sometimes.
Here is the article

and the site
http://www.esalon.com/

What do you all think? I love salon colors over the boxes.

As a hairstylist, I am not a fan. I can't count how many phone calls I have recieved over the last 12 years from people who have messed up their hair with box color, not to mention the corrective color services I've done. Most people aren't that great at judging their own hair, they tend to think its lighter or darker than it is, or they forget about color that has faded off their ends, and with a service that formulates for you without seeing you, that's something that could affect the results. if it turns a shade you like, then it's great! But if it doesn't, corrective color is pricier than the original color service.

I think it's interesting. When dying your hair it's all about knowing your hair. If you have dark hair and want to go white blonde it won't happen the first time. I think people just expect their hair to work and go exactly to what they were picturing. I've recently started using Manic Panic as I'm tired of going to the Salon and paying so much money having it fade a few weeks later and having to wait another three months before I can go again. Manic Panic is a vegan dye and is wonderful! Although it has faded pretty fast it's not a big deal as it's $12 a can, and only semi-permanent so it's not super harmful to your hair. This way I can do my hair every month if I wanted, not have damaged hair and won't have to be paying $200+ each time!

I wish hair dyes didn't contain such harmful chemicals!  :(

Try looking into Henna - I've used it a few times now. It's really nice, good for your hair, not too expensive. If you get a good brand, no chemicals!

There are great, more natural alternatives to box color.  Go look at Whole Foods.

But back on topic ... the service sounds interesting.  If you're looking for something more complicated than an all-over color, though, there's no substitute for a stylist's experience; however, if you're just doing a once-over on your whole head, this sounds great.

I dont know.  If I get hair colour, its just for a peekaboo or a few streaks.  And im part Italian so I have very very dark hair.  I dont do it often (like, once ever 5 or 6 years?) but when I do I would rather just go to a salon.

Actually my peekaboo is grown out so atm its 100% virgin hair...might be thinking about putting it back in when i get a bit better.  Really loved the aubern red turns to when it fades!
