Airbrush Question - Need advice =)
« on: January 19, 2013, 05:47:22 AM »
I'm looking for opinions on purchasing an airbrush!  Which brand(s) do you guys use and are there any special "features" that I should be sure to have.  I'm not looking to invest my life savings into one, but I don't want a low quality one either.  I"m hoping to find that happy medium where I can turn out nice body repaints without breaking the bank.  Any input is appreciated, thanks!

If you're just looking for the bare minimum and not looking for anything super fabulous, I had one of these for most of last year.  I couldn't do really narrow lines, but for repainting bodies or doing leg gradients, it's a nice little airbrush for your money (you can usually find it cheaper, I just picked the first one that was the same as mine).

I recently upgraded to a nice Paasche airbrush at Christmas, and I've yet to do much more than just basic body repainting with it, but I plan on giving it a good workout this weekend.  It feels heavier in my hand, and its springs are much tighter, but the paint seems to go on a bit smoother than with the other one.

My option on the siphon feed airbrushes is tainted by the fact that the one my dad had to use was of very poor quality. It did not like to feed the paint.

I received for my birthday last month, this baby.

Things I like about it:
-dual-action means you can control the amount of paint it feeds
-gravity feed means there's no jars to try and match to the airbrush, and it feeds really well
-it's a great price considering that you get an air compressor with it to
-the booklet it comes with has great tips, and it really walked me through how to properly clean my airbrush

Things I don't like about it:
-gravity feed pot isn't super large (a pro and a con) so I had to pause when practicing giving a pony a FBR because I didn't have enough paint
-the compressor has like nothing by way of instructions, I had to go only and figure out if I was setting it up correctly. I still haven't figured out how to adjust the pressure, but I also haven't had a chance to ask my dad to show me.

Thanks for the input!  Anyone else have anything to add?  I'm hoping to purchase one sometime next week and still having trouble deciding.

I  have a dual action Badger 155.  It is amazing!  And I can't say enough about Badger and their customer service!

They often have great sales on their website in the "garage sale" section.  Here is a link:

Good luck! :)
