Making offers at flea markets and furniture
« on: January 17, 2013, 04:04:10 PM »
My town is pretty rough and doesn't have much, but the flea market is awesome. Very clean, organized and huge. The market has a desk and bookshelf I've been eyeing for a while. They are rather nicely made. The thing about the Flea market here people rent booths put numbers for their stall on them and one or two people run he flea market. The person who runs it doesn't own the stuff. Anyway I have made offers on stuff at other Flea Markets would it be odd in this situation? If I do buy this stuff are there good cleaning things for furniture like this? I clean polish out stuff, but I mean like a cleaner since I'm unsure of where they come from?

Also sorry for weird typos on my phone.

I've been to that sort of flea market before. I never thought about making an offer though. I'd say it's worth a shot! Maybe just ask the person at the front desk first if that is something you can do. I mean, I don't see why not. I would just think it might take a while before you get a response...I don't know how often the sellers come in or contact the people running the place. At least it might be less awkward than trying to bargain with the seller in person? lol

Can't really help with cleaning it though. I always buy super cheap furniture that can be cleaned with a damp soapy cloth. =P

I saw on tv where a person was selling really cool chairs for someone else. All they did was call the owner up and ask if the offer they got was okay. The owner thought it over and said yes.

Is the furniture wood? Could try Murphy's Oil Soap. Test a spot first though, as with all products.

Haha see I've made offers before but not really in this situation. Once I wanted to make offers on some Breyers at a similar Flea Market and luckily the owner knew the person that owned the items. They just called them up really quick, and it was no big deal. I was a bit worried about doing it with furniture, but I would like to try on these. Both items have been there since August to my knowledge.

Also the bookshelf is all wood and unfinished my wife wants to finish it for me. The desk it all wood except the drawers are plywood. Might have those remade and replaced eventually. Also debating having the wood of the desk refinished. Just wasn't sure if it was weird to make offers on the furniture and what to even clean it with when I got home.

I have an antique mall about a half hour from me that's like that and they just call up the owner and ask. Same with some other stores/malls/flea markets I have been to where the owner wasn't there. I would go ahead and ask! :)

I can't think it would hurt to ask as long as you were polite about it.

yes, even on very nice  stores they have  they do not own them and they take offers , they call the owner and you can counter offer :)
I bought a nice Italian sculpture in Miami once, and that was the case .
also a pair of nice French Luis XV chairs at an antique store .

we offer and counter offer a couple of times :)

That reminds me of Rainbow Flash  ,I got her like that, offer and counteroffering on ebay LOL
