Rehairing MCD ponies
« on: January 13, 2013, 10:13:18 AM »
How do you do it? o_o Do you have to take the head off? they seem pretty solidly on to me, and they look too hard for a reroot tool.

So, how would I manage this? :)

I've never worked with any other types, but for a G3, their head is actually very easy to take off usually. Most of the time, you can just run it under some hot water and pull it right off. If it's harder than that, use an X-acto knife to cut it off.

As for rerooting it, you need to open the holes up first with a thumb tack before you can put the tool in. (In fact, I find that to be the case with most ponies, not just McPonies.) I usually put the thumb tack into the hole, get the hair ready on the tool, pull the thumb tack out, then put the hair in. C:

Oh PandaBerry I wish I knew that thumb tack trick when I did my McPony custom. I ended up punching through with my homemade tool and breaking part of it off   :(

I'm in agreement that most them are pretty easy to get off just takes a bit of yanking. And like she said hot water does wonders for the stubborn ones it makes the glue soft.

What they said. They really aren't as difficult as they seem.

Boiling water seems to be what it takes for me.

Don't give up! It's a little bit tricky, but it works. Did it on a G3 pony a while ago. Also removed the plastictail. I gave her to my daughter. She loves her!

I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble.  I'm glad you got the head off.  I usually use a doll needle or a big eye needle for the g3 mcponies because the head is so small.  It can be a pain but stick with it! Can't wait to see pics when you are done.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

Ok, I'll try again! I might just need to use a smaller needle head.. even though I don't know how i'll fit enough hair into it x__x Of course I'm all out of white hair anyways because dollyhair sent me a super underweight hank -___- So I guess I have to wait until I'm not broke..!
