Grey hair??
« on: January 11, 2013, 11:59:54 PM »
Hello all :) I've been debating making a custom of my OC Moon Dust and am having a hard time finding a grey that would match her mane/tail. Everything on DollyHair is too light or just black and I'm looking for a darker grey. She is my avatar and signature if you need a reference picture. Any thoughts or ideas?? Thanks! :)

I needed a dark grey hair and the best solution I came up with was to dye it.

I have monofiber coal, it is very dark, nearly black, so probably not quite what she wants

Coal is an off-black. We do have sterling silver synthetic in stock, it's a gorgeous gray- medium in color. We also have a lighter gray- quick-silver that I can pre-order :)

I wondered about the Coal.  S'pose you could blend it to lighten it.  :)

Hm looks like I'm going to have to dye it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can go about doing it? Or the best types of dyes? Thanks :)

RIT dye, hot water, dip until it's the color you want, let dry. There is very little in this world that's easier to dye than nylon hair.

Thank you ^.^ The base hair color probably wouldn't matter too much since I'm dying it a bit of a darker color, right? Or would it help to hair her in a lighter color first and then dye?
Sorry for all the questions, I've never done this before! :)

I'd start with a white, personally; then you don't have to worry about it turning, say, a very dark blue-gray, instead of strait gray. Never know what dyes are going to do with other colors on the base...
My creativity keeps running into a lack of time and resources.
I'm also available via twitter at @Kazzellin :)

So many projects!! What do I want to work on? :awake:

Always start with white unless you're deliberately going for a layered/half-tone effect.
