ChipsteRJ's computer got infected with a virus...
« on: January 10, 2013, 02:19:10 PM »
My computer has a virus.. It still works in safemode, I'm writing this from my own computer working in safemode.

My presence will be quite limited. I have signed up for the V-Day swap & Army ones. I am still waiting for my $30 holiday box to arrive.

This warning shouldn't last more than about a week. I will try my best to keep up with outstanding transactions and e-bay sales.

I have been thinking of upgrading anyway. Probably not going to be resolved for a couple of weeks. I tried getting 2 quotes to fix it and both were $200+ Using Windows XP currently anyway to upgrade to Windows 8 will be costing me nearly as much as a new computer and I've always wanted a laptop....

2 Hours later my computer seems to be up and running... Currently running a security scan- not quite sure if I fully trust the computer again, but XP is soon to be obsolete anyway, I think I just bought a bit more time to figure out what type/ brand of computer to get. I think I want a laptop...

Suggestions greatly appreciated...

Don't get Windows 8 for starters. I heard it's a nightmare for computers. Get a computer with Windows 7
darcerin on the TP, arinaketchum on ebay, Salvia on PI

I neither own a smart phone nor a tablet. I hate the App look. Thanks for the thoughts. Scan just completed... 2 issues found time for a re-start- wish me luck!

If you can manage to snag some Anti Virus goodies may I recommend Malwarebytes. I am sure a lot of others will vouch for the awesomeness that program is. Also a good free Virus scanner is AVG all free scanners have their high points and low points or just invest in a free 30 day trial and run it in safe mode then run it out of safe mode. Do that for the Malwarebytes as well; run it in safe mode then run it normally.

I love finding virii on peoples computers and fixing them. My friends build them I just trouble shoot virus problems and software stuff because I am too scared to build a pc. Snapping in the memory always makes me think I am going to break the motherboard or the memory stick lol.

I built this computer. Building computers is easy. When you build it yourself you can avoid all the pre-loaded and trial crap that comes on pre-built computers. You also can get the best of everything...back 5 years ago it was pretty much top of the line, now it is obsolete (almost).

I use AVG free. AVG is AWESOME. It warned me of the attack, but stupidly I allowed it instead of Quarantining it... it was all my fault...FYI I did use malwarebytes, but it had to be run in safe mode.

I think the computer is all back to normal, but I have a lot of catching up to do.
