Getting my ducks in a row...
« on: January 04, 2013, 04:06:04 PM »
I bought a Fashion Style Rainbow Dash specifically to customize into the pegasus-who-shall-not-be-named, and I'm finally gearing up to do it. Gathering up some info before diving headfirst into my first rehair might be a good idea. :)

1. How many hanks of Retrodolls hair will it take? I've decided on jonquil synthetic and yellow twinkle synthetic, if that matters. (Gonna give her the hexagonal eye shine and make her a crystal pony!)

2. Since I'm buying hair anyway, I have a g1 Firefly (year 2, not movie version) who needs a tail. I found several Retrodolls colors that could work. What do you guys suggest?

honestly i have never rehaired a fashion pony.....but I am guessing that 3 hanks would work for normal length hair (tho if you wanted long hair, or thick hair, you would need more)

It would probably depend on what type of hair you buy. I have heard that FS ponies use at least 4 hanks of hair.

If say, you're going with monofiber, which is on the slimmer side, I would go with 5, or even 6.

Err on the side of too much, IMO.

If you are ordering through RetroDollsUS I would get 3 of Jonquil and 2 of Yellow Twinkle - better to have some left over.

If you are ordering through RetroDolls (european site) I would get L Jonquil and 2 Yellow Twinkle

Well, I went and paid my credit card bill and ordered my hair! 3 hanks of RetrodollsUS Jonquil and 2 of Yellow Twinkle for :muffin: Pony, and 2 of Dollyhair Water Nixie for Firefly's new tail. I know they say that Atomic Turquoise is the match for Firefly, but her mane is pretty faded.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I'll be sure to post pics of my progress.
