Oh, I forgot to mention: You do not have to play any other Castlevania title to enjoy Lords of Shadow. It stands on its own.

Thanks! I generally like the Castlevania games :) Super 4, Symphony of the Night and Lament of Innocence are my favorites.

Yes! Those are so good ^^

I know others have mentioned in the past that the 3D Castlevanias are not quite so good, but Lords of Shadow really is great. The "revamp" of the series is good, the graphics are beautiful and the gameplay itself it smooth and very fun. It is also easy to put down and pick back up when needed.

It is also a few years old now, so it would be a little cheaper.

(And if you like it, you won't have to wait to long for the sequel)

RDR... I cannot recommend it enough. Probably the best game I've played in years. The story is emotional and engaging and the gameplay flows brilliantly. Plus you can break in your own horse (albeit incredibly unrealistically) and keep him for the whole game if you like. Coincidently, John Marston has the sexiest voice ever...

So yes yes yes! Go for it. I wouldn't bother getting the zombie addition unless you are super into zombie games as it's quite generic and on the GOTY edition I believe there's only multiplayer stuff aside from that. Another game made by the same people is LA Noire. My advice is if you get on with Red Dead then try that one too as it's also very good.

As for other games... I avoided Skyrim like the plague for a while as I never liked Oblivion much but now I've finally caved in and I can't get enough. Aside from it looking quite grey and dull in videos it is an extremely engaging game and I can promise that you would get your money's worth from it. I have racked up about 60 hours so far and I haven't even touched the main storyline.

As others have said, the Assassin's Creed games are very good but the first one is very repetitive. If you could stand just reading a synopsis of what happens in the first one then the second one is loads of fun. It's one of the only games I've bothered to get the platinum trophy for.

Can't believe no one else has mentioned the Uncharted games yet. They're also some of my favourites with fantastic gameplay and cinematic. You should be able to pick up the first one (Drake's Fortune I believe...) for quite cheap now.  Also if you like Batman (or even if you don't mind it) then the Arkham Asylum and Arkham City games are very fun!

Good luck choosing some games :)

If you like WWE/GTA games, you might want to try Saints Row 3: the full package. It's more silly, you can give running bulldogs to pedestrians and dropkick them out of their cars, unlike GTA it's respectful of your time(20-30 hours to get through mostly everything), you can download other players characters to use in your game, plenty of crazy twists and vehicles and weapons and oh my god is it fun!

Also, Colt Cabana and Sonjay Dutt did some of the motion capture.

Also, I heard Skyrim still isn't fixed and as you play, it gets gradually slower and slower until it eventually crashes. Bummer times. Sleeping Dogs looked sort of fun too, and it's pseudo 70s kung fu dlc.

It really does look engrossing and it's interested me for a while. Glad to hear someone recommend it personally :D I think my mind is made up about getting now (although it was already, just didn't know what version). Thanks so much for the info about the GOTY edition!

Isn't Assassin's Creed made by Ubisoft? They did Beyond Good and Evil, one of my favorite games of all time. I also really enjoyed the Prince of Persia games. The Two Thrones is also one of my fav games of all time. I'll probably get into Assassin's Creed later just because Ubisoft tends to make amazing games

That sounds awesome XD

Colt Cabana involved in anything is win.

Skyrim IS buggy.  It is.  Everything Bethesda makes is buggy, but it is not so buggy as to be ruled out.  I have not experienced any of the chronic or game breaking bugs with Skyrim, but I have experienced them with Fallout New Vegas.  There are ways to limit some of these bugs.  The chronic slow down is lessened by keeping fewer save files and shutting off auto-save.  Before doing this Fallout 3 was practically impossible to play past the halfway point.  Other bugs are being addressed with patches, but not to the level that has satisfied players.  It is likely impossible to do so, as the game is so massive and so many factors are at play, but they are trying and their effort has led to one of my absolute favorite gaming experience.  There.  Had to put that out there.

I'll put in another high rating for Red Dead Redemption! I was highly addicted to that game when I first got it. The story is excellent. I also enjoyed the Undead Nightmare version, but I'm definitely a zombie fan to begin with! Plus, you can get some pretty cool horses to ride in that version (the 4 horses of the apocalypse... and a unicorn, lol). I'd say you should definitely go for that game if it looks interesting to you... you won't regret it!! :)

I'm also surprised more people haven't mentioned Uncharted! That is a perfect series for a "loner," gamer like you. Very, very fun - great story, great characters... lots of adventure!

I also have to put in a good word for the God of War series. <3 You can get the PS2 & PSP games as collections remastered for the PS3 and then of course there is God of War III which was made specifically for PS3. & there is God of War: Ascension upcoming! Great games for the solo player since none of them have been multiplayer (until Ascension, but even then it still is going to have a single player story mode).

I'm with Echo shell.  All the Bethesda games are so awesome, buggy or not. RDR I couldn't get into so much, but I enjoyed the zombies part of it.

I'll also recommend RDR! I enjoyed it a lot, I love open, free run games like that. My boyfriend is currently playing through it and he loves it (and he's not even really a gamer! He's logged a lot of hours in that game!). The story line is pretty good too. I haven't tried the zombie version yet, but I'm tempted too as I'd like to see how the story might be different?

Assassin's Creed is by Ubisoft and I must say that it is my FAVORITE series! The first one is pretty repetitive (especially compared to the newer ones) but I still loved it, as to me, it was a first of it's kind and so different than anything I'd played before. The story line is pretty important, it carries through the rest of the games (kinda, it's referenced to, as each game sorta takes place in a different historical time) and the latest one, AC3 is just. I love it. I can't get enough!

The Uncharted games are great as well, and I've always been a fan of the Tomb Raider games :)

Thanks everyone for your other suggestions too, a lot of cool games have been mentioned that I might wanna try too!
