Tasmanian Firestorm
« on: January 05, 2013, 12:19:49 AM »
So I was just watching the news and omg, never so many expletives have left my mouth, the fire was PINK AND ORANGE on the telly. And apparently it keeps relighting because of strong winds and it's just gobbling up the place like I gobble up chips.

Any cheap and easy fundraising ideas? I'm no good at making money, and I don't have any of my own at the moment that I can spare because of some payments I'm tied up in. But I'm willing to try anyway! No food suggestions, I think you heald a health and safety paper for that. D:

my only advice is - AVOID THE RED CROSS!!!!! last i heard, they still hadn't disbursed any of the 100's of thousands raised for the 2009 victorian bushfires. my bro in law is about 20 k's away from the fire, he's in hobart. they can just see the smoke coming over the mountains now. pretty scary. i'd say the sally army will be onto clothes donations/supplying food, centrelink will set up for emergency necessity payments. contact 'Andreas needs a Miracle' on facebook, it was originally set up for their sick little man, but are at the moment helping others :)

oh, and did you see on the news the lady with her 11 month old up to her neck in the water and the flames still coming at them? how horrifying!!! i still remember black saturday, watching the temp creep up and up to 46, knowing that somewhere was gonna burn. lucky i'm pretty far from marysville area, but did go there a couple of months later for the snow season, and i have never been so upset in my life. the most beautiful historic town, gone, and all those poor people that had nowhere to go, and no chance.

this is the snow resort lake mountain a couple of months later :(

I would donate to the salvo's, but,  they've screwed me over and treated us terribly once when we were under their care. So facebook lady it is! I just need to find things I can actually donate, I have nothing as I've recnelty done a big clean out. But thanks for posting that, i'll add it to the main post!

I hope your relatives remain safe!

Horrible to see such devastation in Tasmania. Apparently the 41C they reached yesterday is their all-time high record. With Black Saturday still fresh in everyone's memory it's hard to see more and more fires, even if it is a part of living here. It's still going to be warm for the next few days, but the news just said one of the fires has been downgraded, which is good news. Not so good news that 90 houses are already gone :(

I thought 1000 homes were gone? D: I've been emailing the celebs on my fb list about it, asking them if they can repost, but saying that I'll understand if they don't. More attention the better right? Us Aussies are always lending a hand to everyone else.
