Here's a crazy idea. I have no idea if something like this would work, but maybe you could try it on some test hair first. What about hot glue for masking? It peels away from certain surfaces so easily, and once dry maybe it would provide a solid blockade to prevent bleeding? You could set up your lines with hot glue barricades.

Like I said, I have no idea if that would actually work, you'd have to like, coat the hair sections all the way around, not just on top layer to prevent bleeding, and I have no idea how nylon hair reacts to hot glue. Maybe a caulking gun, like the silicone ones, would accomplish the same thing without the heat. No idea though! Raindrop's suggestion made this pop into my head.

Blackestbird - I have used hot glued to do dye masking on pony body but not on pony hair - I sometimes use it to secure the hair inside of the head :)

Oh thanks for the info JPP! :D Good to know it works for some masking anyway. I just thought it's ability of peeling away from certain surfaces might work, but yeah definitely not sure how it'd be in hair for that purpose. At least if you use it to secure it on the inside then we know it's not hot enough to melt the hair or have any adverse reactions, so that's something at least ^__^

I love the idea of hot glue masking but maybe it could be tricky to get off the hair? How about using some Modge podge instead? If you apply dye with q-tips and mask the areas you want to remain white with mod podge you could wash it off rather easily afterwards?
I'd love to hear about your trials!

What about something like vaseline?  Most stylists use it along hair lines to prevent to dye from getting on skin, so it must have some pretty decent blocking abilities.
