Ribbons
« on: December 29, 2012, 09:42:51 AM »
I am starting to love ribbons for my ponies. Some one very awesome gave me a box that had a few pony ribbons.....and now I am hooked.

My main question is how can you tell a G1 MLP Ribbon from a ribbon made today?

Is their a ribbon guide for which pony has what ribbon?

I am probably going to make my own until I get an original...but I do not want to confuse myself or if I sell a pony with a ribbon that I am not sure if I did it or its the original....any advice on ribbons?

This for all types of G1's from baby to adult to daddy and flutters:)

They have a unique texture.  Real pony ribbons are actually pretty easy to identify, but I don't know how to describe it in words.  They're a lot softer than other ribbons.  I'm obsessed too, so I know what you mean.

Summer Hayes books are what I use to match up accessories and ponies.  My theory is that Hasbro wasn't so consistent that a certain pony always came with the same color ribbon, but the books are good enough for me.

I couldn't live without this gem.

Lady Twilight's website has lots of great photos as well.

I hope this helps!   :)

I have been wanting that book so bad:) Just have to talk the hubby in letting me have it:)

The web guide is really nice. If I use ribbon that I find at walmart or places like that do I need to worry about bleeding of color on to the pony?

No, you shouldn't have to worry about that.  I've never had problems and have never heard anyone else complain about it.

Some rubber bands will leave marks so I'm careful which ones I use.  Also, if the pony's hair is wet a paper flower
s color will leach out.  I suppose anything with dye or paint could rubb off and leave marks.

I wouldn't worry too much about ribbons though.

You can make ribbons color-fast by soaking them in vinegar for a period of time.  :)

You can also buy little packets of clear elastics in the children's hair section of just about any store.

Most ribbon dyes are colour fast so you dont have to worry but if you do want to test it all you have to do is dip it in cold then warm water and leave it to dry on a white paper towel. You ll know as soon as you remove the ribbon if it's colour fast. And if not the vinegar trick LBS mentions will fix it up.

I have a ribbon list I can email you if you want - just pm me :)

Geeze, how do you know this stuff?  I know you've been around a long time, but I feel like lately you've been posting tons of wisdom.  Can I quote a few of your tips on my website?
