Can i use mod podge??
« on: February 26, 2013, 04:28:00 PM »
Hiya

I'm going to start customising MH dolls soon. it's a whole new world for me!

Rather than jump right in and assume it's the same as ponies I'm taking my time and reading up tutorials.

I've seen a lot of talk about 'Mr Super Clear Flat' sealant and how its the only one to use.  BUT its so expensive and I'm not sure I can keep nipping outside to seal my dolly paint lol.

So I was wondering if Mod Podge would do the job instead?

What do other people on here use?

Thanks!

Liquitex is the best to use. Mr. Super Clear goes tacky. Mod Podge can yellow especially the gloss but I have used the matte and no yellowing yet.

The problem with mod podge is that is water based.
I want to try Mr Super Clear Flat.
I use Krylon matte finish on my dolls no problem so far.

Mr. Super Clear goes tacky and can screw up your face up because dust gets stuck.

I've never had a problem with Mr Super Clear, ordered it online since I couldn't find it locally.  For ponies I used Testor's but haven't tried that on a MH custom yet.

I use Testors Dullcote, and it is not very expensive. Maybe 8 dollars a can at my local craft store. I would say it does not go tacky - I have Pullip Dolls from 2009 that I used it on and they are still great.

I tried using Testors Dullcoat on a MH custom head I've been working on, and so far so good. It's not sticky at all and nothings chipped off yet...and no yellowing so far.

I have read that Dullcote has a new formula as of last year, and this new formula can go tacky I you don't shake the can up WAY more than you think it needs. It's happened to me on ponies.

I have also read that MSC works great on the doll head, but it will flake off of the body.

Thanks so much for your opinions everyone! After a lot of googling and tutorial reading I think I've settled on trying Testors :) Wish me luck!
