Oil Cleansing Method, any experience?
« on: December 14, 2012, 07:49:20 AM »

Does anyone have experience of using the oil cleansing method? I have somewhat oily, sensitive skin thats prone to breakouts, especially just before my period, and I'm wondering if this could possibly help clear up my skin?

Any thoughts on OCM is of interest!

I used to do this but stopped just because I got lazy and my skin cleared up. I found it worked best for me with either grape seed or coconut oil, I have tried it with others (like olive and jojoba) but really broke out afterwards. I liked it because it kept my skin moisturized, but not greasy. It takes some experimenting but I say it's worth a try! For me though, cutting back on junk food and soda cleared up my skin more than anything, but ocm did help.

I know that a blend of jojoba and castor oils is supposed to be great for skin cleansing, but remember to moisturize afterward with a bit of tea tree or coconut oil. A little goes a VERY long way.

And for a skin toner, try mixing organic apple cider vinegar and water. And to cut the scent of the vinegar a bit, you can add an essential oil. Since I use an ACV / water / rosemary oil for my hair rinse, I just use my rosemary oil. I know many people say to use lavender oil, but the scent of lavender gives me a the WORST headaches.

I've heard of this, but in a pretty different context. My boyfriend recently dumped cooking oil onto the stove to clean all the grimy poop that was cooked onto it... and it worked like a charm! I just can't get over using oil to clean something! It doesn't seem like it should work, but it does!

For my face, I've started using ground coffee. I dont scrub hard, but I like to leave the coffee paste on my face for about ten minutes, and I like the way it makes my skin feel soft and makes my eyes look more awake.

I remember someone mentioned it another time and posted a link from a blog on how to do it.  It sounded interesting, so I bookmarked it.  Here's the link:

 I thought I remembered reading a topic similar to this a few months ago, but wasn't quite sure. Glad to know I'm not going crazy and not just experiencing deja vue. XP

It's always great to learn about healthier organic beauty tips, though, so I love reading topics like this. I use a baking soda / water blend to cleanse my hair, and the ACV / water / rosemary oil as a rinse ( sometimes I use more of each, sometimes less. It depends on how oily my hair is when I go to wash it. ), and I've used coffee and catnip to tint my hair.

I REALLY wish there was a natural organic home made permanent dye for blondes, but are either just henna, black walnut, or indigo. Not exactly blonde. ^^;
