Pony shopping un Sydney and Melbourne?
« on: December 02, 2012, 02:17:14 PM »
Hi there everypony, especially pony types from Down Under!

I'm off to oz for work next week, and I was wondering where are the best places for me to make some sneaky pony purchases when I have a minute spare?

If anyone could help I would be extremely grateful!

I'm after G 4's but if there are also any vintage toy shops anywhere I'd love to check them out too!

:)

Thanks in advance!

Target, bigW and Kmart are pretty good for G4's someone in the city might beable to help with second hand places.

The Glebe markets seem like a good place to find ponies, I've not had luck there but others have.

Tasmania Ulverstone has lots of antique shops and second hand shops.. One of the antique shops sells toys if I remember correctly.. I don't really know of anywhere else XD

i'm about 30 mins west of melbourne, new g4's are getting scarce round my way. kmart doesn't have much new stuff, my closest big w had the motion ponies, and has rarity's carousel. target had lyra, trixie, cherry berry, and the wedding ponies. depends where abouts in melb you will be, but for somewhere that has a good mix of the above shops would be chadstone shopping centre, southland shopping centre, highpoint shopping centre, just to name a few. there is also melbourne central in the city centre. we also have a shop called toy world, but you'd be best to google locations, they are pretty random :) for 2nd hand ponies, i cannot help at all, i have looked in my area to no avail, but you could also try googling salvation army, st vincents, brotherhood of st laurence to see if any of their op shops (thrift stores ) will be near to you.

have an awesome time whilst you are here, i hope the weather behaves for you, it's supposed to be the start of summer but we've had some pretty impressive storms the past couple of days!!!! good ol melbourne is well known for having all 4 seasons in one day

I think that there is a pretty neat antique mall in Chapel St, it can be a bit pricey, but, if you want older ponies it normally has a few in there.

As for G4's, your best bet is places like Kmart, Big W, Toys r Us, Target, Toyworld, and depending on where you are staying, there may be other toy shops near by. There are heaps of thrift / 2nd hand / op shops around too, such as salvos, vinnies, savers etc. depending on your area, I have had very little luck actually finding any ponies in thrift stores in victoria, but, if you are nearby, you might as well go have a look :)

I lived about 2 1/2 hours up the coast from Sydney a couple of years ago, and know it's not the best place to shop for this sort of thing. It seems to be mroe "trendy" and brand names, if that makes any sense.

I am not a big fan of Sydney though, but thats just my personal opinion lol. There are some really pretty areas around there though.

Also as to that, there's a boat called the Spirit of Tasmania that goes from Melbourne to Devonport Tasmania, and from Devonport you can catch the bus to Ulverstone and that's a 20 min drive :P
