     Do you remember the fan character trends from 2004 to 2007, like how every character was Inuyasha's long lost little sister from another dimension and had a dark past, became a goth, or was secretly a princess?
     I'd like to know:
1. Did you ever have fan characters like this? Could you tell me about them?
2. What are the fan character trends for 2012?

     I'm curious because I just remembered my old Krypto the Super Dog fan characters: A wolf based off of Wonder Woman and a hawk based off of Hawk Girl. They were terrible copies of the heroes they were based on, and were only created because I hated the fact that there were more male super pets than female super pets when I was little.

Harry Potter was still going strong wasn't it?  Also Lord of the Rings.  Lost was a really big fandom, too.  Plus all the Josh Whedon universes.   

As for right now, I think MLP is pretty popular.  :-p  Also, those who play WoW or similar are very attached to their characters.

I'm afraid I've never really made "fan characters" so I wouldn't have a clue.

I never did make fan characters based off of that, but I was into LotR, Harry Potter, Yu Gi Oh, Cardcaptor Sakura and maybe a bit of Inu Yasha around that time.

My persona was based off of a patchwork pony done in 2001, and that was based off of who I was as a person.  if it helps, the original had a gamecube...and an orcarina! xD
