custom ponys in cloathing
« on: November 30, 2012, 01:53:23 AM »
here is a question for you all I want to make a dress for a pony. Tips and hints would be good but my main question is this should the cloaths be removable? I'd also love to see pictures for some insperation!

I don't think they need to be removable, it just depends on what you want. If there was detail underneath the clothes then removable items would probably work best. I use small press studs when making clothes for ponies so they are easy to take apart.

Non-removable clothes are usually easier to make, getting the clothes fit snugly and still keep them removable is challenging... at least for someone who has no experience in sewing, like me. XD

Definitely work out a pattern before you get started.  You can use tissue paper or another material to wrap around the pony to help make the pattern.  Non removable is easier and sometimes looks better for the reasons mentioned above.  Pony bodies are oddly shaped and it's hard to get a tight fit that can still come off.  For example the waist is quite small but they have big round booties.  Here are a few I have done...
Skirt and corset removable.

Dress with gathered waist removable (lace up the back)

And a pair of swimming trunks (not entirely happy with these)

I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

I make patterns with paper towel then use pencil to refine then cut and rework until I get what I like.  I usually make them removable by using ties or elastic in strategic places.

RevRuby makes awesome clothes, I know she tends to actually pin the clothes to the pony.

I went with removable for my pony wedding project, the tissue paper is a great idea!  Really, sketching out the idea in very important.  Get an idea for how many pieces you are going to need.

Ponies being as small as they are, you can actually get some items for the trim areas of fabric/craft stores.  Wide ribbon and lace can make a no sew skirt when needed.
