Questions about closing an Ebay store
« on: November 13, 2012, 01:44:27 PM »
I am trying to find certain questions to ending your subscription to your Ebay store. I'm searched all over Ebay and can only find conflicting answers and vague answers from Ebay.

First off, I only have buyitnows, but I have a LOT of them. I would like to know what is going to happen when I close the store. Some older pages on Ebay say they will immediately be charged the full amount to list. Some older sources also say they will end immediately.

Then I see some sources say they may be subjected to further fees. Wth? Can I please get an answer from someone who has experienced with closing their Ebay store. I see many people speculating but it seems like no one has an actual experience with doing it.

Basically, I have so many buyitnows, that it would cost me lots of money to close the store if this were the case. When I choose "Close Store" on Ebay, it tells me to choose if I want to end the listings or keep them on. But they don't specify what will happen when I choose one or the other.

First off you cannot close your Ebay store until after forty five days from your last sold listing having ended. If you sold something recently you have to wait a couple months in case the buyer decides to open a dispute against you. There is no way around this rule.

When I shut mine down they make you end all listings beforehand. Provided no one has bid on any of them, (in your case buy it now's) they don't charge you anything beyond the listing fees you agreed to when posting them. Again you can't get around this rule so if you close it up early no matter what they charge the 10 cents or whatever per listing. (at least when I stopped mine a couple years ago that was the case.)

That's pretty much it. Once you end it, you have two weeks where your store still stays online in case you change your mind before it finally disappears.

So in short,

You must wait 45 days till after your last sale happened.
You must pay the listing fees once you stop all of your current listings.
Two weeks waiting time before your account is disabled after you ask for it to be removed.

Hope this helps some. I'm afraid I can't remember if they made you pay the fees right away but I'm pretty sure that yes, they did. If it's going to cost you a lot I would suggest slowly downsizing into nothingness. Also when they say "extra fees may apply" it doesn't really mean jack. They need to write it in case they charge you for the fees or for previous fees you still owe them and you try and dispute it. It's purely legal mumbo-jumbo and you won't have any actual "mystery fees" popping up.

I'm asking about closing down an Ebay store, not closing my entire account.

I have never shut an ebay store down to know what the process is.

I would probably call ebay, as they are the only one's who are going to give you the answer your seeking.

For a minute I thought there were was another member called ponylady. Your avatar threw me off!

But yeah, I had already called Ebay. The man literally just read off a script which was strikingly similar to the page that I had already read. But it doesn't surprise me as that's always been my experience with Ebay. The average seller knows more than the average customer service rep. They get 1 star in communication.

But no matter. I found a lady on Ebay that knew the answers as she regularly closes and opens Ebay stores. So it's all good and over and closed. It was a fun test but didn't work for my items. I know some people have success with it but for me it seemed to slow down my sales. Oh well.

Glad you got it figured out!  I believe you just go into your subscriptions and there is a way to do it from there.  Was that what you had to do?
