New eBay Global Shipping Program - help???

Am I reading this right? It looks like the new eBay global shipping program makes life a lot easier for ME, but it charges my customers a LOT more for shipping than I've been charging.

It looks like with the program, I sell an item to someone in an eligible country (like Australia or the UK), I ship the item to eBay's processing center, I receive the item price + US shipping fee. Then the customer has to pay a bunch MORE for international shipping + import fees...??

Anyone have more info on this?

I see good and bad with it just like everything ebay rolls out. The best part I do see with it is that is a way to help sellers automatically prove that they have shipped in a timely manner.  So they will not be able to ding your stars for shipping time.


It does appear though that your customer will be charged a bit extra for shipping.  And I am sure there will be folks who won't accept the "extra" charges and it may well put International buyers off purchasing from the US altogether, but I think that these will be a distinct minority.

I am a little confused on what they mean about displaying "customs fees" though. I mean I get it but are they going to have a system in play for each and every country since each country has their own procedure?

Like all ebay changes, when you read up on it it makes it sound positive... but I'm not so sure that this isnt going to be another headache (and wallet  ache)  for international buyers

Oh no, this means more fees 
But I guess sellers have a hard time on ebay nowadays and complained, so ebay are probably doing this to take some of the pressure off from them.

This is the first I heard about it though, do you have a link?

I guess it will allow sellers to feel more safe shipping internationally again, as there'll be a record that the item was sent if it arrives at this middle-man. Though I feel those same international buyers will lose out in terms of postage costs... according to that link they even have to pay fuel surcharges, a transaction fee, a processing fee... oh dear.

I thought it sounded great at first, and added it to all my auctions. But after reading more closely, I've taken it off again. From what I've seen, my international buyers would be paying almost double!! I can't have that - it's not fair to my customers.

I agree Kala.  Honestly, it is much easier and cheaper to ship your own stuff internationally.

Plus it is going to eventually cost someone for that service they are providing.  Sure, at first it's going to be the International Buyer but it will eventually fall back on the seller.  It's getting to be about time for ebay to tack on some more fee's for us.
