Sculpting on a Fakie?
« on: November 03, 2012, 12:19:38 PM »
Hello there lovely customizers!

I am new to customizing and I pretty much have no clue what I'm doing... :what:

But when I saw one of those knock off Remco Fakies at a flea market today I just could not help shake the urge to try my hand at it.

What I'd really like to do is add some sculpted elements to it, but I am afraid that I would melt the pony when trying to harden the clay, since the plastic it's made of is a lot softer and thinner than the kind actual Hasbro's are made from.

I suppose I'd like to know if anyone has any suggestions, personal experience with fake customs or know of good tutorials?

I would be most grateful! Thank you  :lovey:

It's going to depend on the fakie whether they'll hold up to baking. I'm not sure where Remcos stand. You could always try an airdry clay though.

I've used Apoxie SCulpt on fakies with succcess
but I've never worked with air drying clay for fear of melting the pony thus ruining hours of sculpting ;p
but I would test on one with something simple so if it's ruined you're not really out much

Thank you so much for your advice both of you!

I'll have to see if I can find either one of those types of clay online as I live in a little village close to the polar circle I am not likely to find it in any store here, haha  :big grin:

This is all very exciting though, hopefully things will work out :)

I've heard that boiling the pony instead of baking it will work too, and generally, boiling doesn't hurt the pony at all.
