They're mass-produced in an overseas factory, just like regular MLP.  Why would you expect them to be of high quality?

Since when does "mass-produced in an overseas factory" mean the quality of something is automatically bad?

Name a plastic product that is manufactured overseas that very rarely has QC issues - everything I've seen, from Barbie to cheap dollar store toys all have "paint printing issues", "mold alignment issues", "scratches", "Dents", "smeared painting", "regrind"... should I go on?

It's just what happens when a product is mass-manufactured on an assembly line and not by individual workers who are creating the start-to-finish product on their own workbenches.  Hence why Hasbro brushables are $5-7 and customs created by artists are $50+...

I think that's just an overgeneralization. You're acting as if every mass produced item has bad quality and every custom has good quality. People were just pointing out that the quality of these are not that great. Are we not allowed to do that the moment it's "mass produced"?
People expected their quality to be higher since they are promoted as collectibles rather than toys.

There are "mass produced overseas" items that are of good quality, of course! Toys in general just don't tend to evoke the word "quality," though.

I think Funko might have cheaped out on these just a little bit because they knew they'd fly off the shelves no matter what. They are "collectibles," but more for what they are than how well they're made, I guess.

Does anybody else have other figurines in Funko's vinyl line? How do they compare to the ponies, quality-wise?

**EDIT**
Looks like Funko's overall quality has been discussed. It seems like this is relatively par for the course, though it's strange that just about all of the Funko ponies have some kind of quality issue (and that the RD always has that chip in her cheek!)

I have all the Peanuts bobble heads produced by Funko due to my Snoopy, Lucy and Woodstock collection - honestly I think they are well made without any obvious issues that was why I thought they were a manufacturer not notorious for poor quality but I believe from someone's earlier post that Funko do have quality issues...guess I lucked out on all my bobbleheads!

Actually Funko has quite a few quality issues on their products. If you do some searches on the Funko Fanatic forums you will see figures with paint issues, chipping and misassembly; a lot of the same issues that people are seeing on the pony figures. The reality is that these are mass produced vinyl figures not high end artwork. $15 may seem like a lot to some people but for vinyl figures it is really on the low end of the spectrum money wise.

Funko has well-documented issues regarding its quality control in regards to a collectible item.  Therefore unless they have altered their manufacturing process, one can presume that the same flaws will occur in their future products.

Mass produced just seems to go hand in hand with poorer quality, sorry to slap a generalization on it but it's been proven more times than not. Cheaper mass produced items can come from anywhere including the USA.

Since the company is labeling them as "collectors" items, one would expect a lot higher quality control to be put on them. Doesn't matter the price tag.

I'd rather pinch my pennies and buy the colorable Fluttershy and RainbowDash, which seem to be of a higher standard as far as  pony toys go and these aren't even labeled for sale as "Collectors" items but a child's toy.

They probably think that Bronies don't care about quality, and that they'll buy anything involved with G4 ponies...

Astute observation.. As for overseas factories, my best friend is a production manager in the fashion industry and it is a common struggle between what the execs want to spend and QC at factories... my figure seriously looks like it was dropped on the factory floor and stuck in the box. No bueno. Maybe I will write to Funko on this one. Squeaky wheels and all. Of course, maybe the licensing company (Hasbro/Hub I assume) had the say in the budget, so hard to know to whom to complain

As for being overpriced, I don't think retail is too much on this (14). It is a heavy, well-conceived design. It's the execution of that design that is the issue. Of course, I succumbed to ebay, KNOWING BETTER, but my compulsive collector got the better of me on this one. Hopefully I can fix her up.

I kinda like that her cutie mark is off. At least it ups the value (hopefully). That is of course assuming that I will ever part with her. I have YET to part with any of my collection. :)
