Need your opinions

I have another problem I'd like to hear some other opinions on.

A few months ago I send a rather big package to the US. It cost me ~ 23 USD to ship. Unfortunately I chose the "wrong" shipping method, so it ended up taking almost 3 months to arrive. But it arrived.
Problem: it couldn't be delivered because there was a mistake in the address. Contacting the receiver of said box, we found out that this was their mistake not mine, because I had been given the faulty address.
Finally the box was returned to China, and I didn't even have to pay extra fees on getting it back.
Problem: I sent it back to the US, because the box was for a swap I was hosting and I had already spent good money on the items inside, it's not some crap that could be thrown away, and it's definitely stuff that I don't need.
Now I chose the faster shipping method of course, but it cost around 40 USD to ship.

What are your opinions on this? Am I in the right to ask for compensation?

I'm leaving the country in 3 weeks, so I had to get the box out, it couldn't have waited till I return.

I feel I am going to lose the money, and that's really not good at the moment because before I go home I gotta pay 3 months rent in advance and dental costs came up unexpectedly.  I know I was the swap holder, and of course I would have send another box if that one had gone missing. Also choosing the wrong/ slow shipping method was my fault.

If I was the receiver I would probably pay you $23, as the wrong address would have been my fault. Calculated as: total shipping paid ($63) less shipping cost if neither mistake had been made ($40). I think that would be fair.

I agree with starfaerie, it wouldnt be fair to you to pay so much, when there has been mistakes from both partys so to say. Good luck

I know it partly my fault...can you hold out till I get paid next friday I can do at least $20 maybe more? Im still furious at my post as I tried for several days to track the package down before they sent it back.

Yes I think I have come to compromise, I will be paying at least $20 more if i can swing it when I get paid. I think this is fare, and Honeycomb has been awesome about this whole thing.
