How to make a removable wig?
« on: October 22, 2012, 02:43:52 AM »
Hey guys, I've gotten curious, I need to know how to make a wig for my mh doll!

is it like rerooting a head, but on a fabric cap? Has anybody done this before? Any ideas? I've been looking about on Ebay and really can't find what I'm looking for :T

I want to uses synthetic/nylon hair of course. Mohair is too expensive and messy :(

Hello bagheera. I am in the process of trying this method posted here, not finished yet though. So far it is pretty easy. >> http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,311776.msg453427.html#msg453427
It uses hot glue and a plastic baggy. She deconstructs a wig for people and uses the wefts to make a doll wig.

You can also try to make a wig the normal way by sewing wefts of hair to a wig cap. It is basically the same as making a full sized wig for people, just smaller. Like this > http://youtu.be/qUrPsJCm6vU
You can get hair wefts at beauty store or on internet/ebay/etsy. They would be called either hair weft, weave, or hair extension. (and you can get them in any kind of hair human, synthetic, nylon or blend)
A cap like this I *think* will fit MH doll, not entirely sure though but I will be trying it eventually and sewing wefts on >> http://www.oobiedoll.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=388

There's also a super fast way, that involves hair wefts, that Salli just showed me the other day.. You can see it here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4gjFdCG4N0 This looks very do-able. That being said, I can link you to multiple places where you can purchase awesome wigs for between 5-20 that I can verify DO fit monster high dolls. Pm me if you want that info :D

I've done the plastic baggie method with feathers instead of hair, though. It worked really well, and was really fun :)

I made a simple cap out of fabric and glue and I used the hair from a dollar store wig took two days to make mostly for the glue to dry I know the video is on you tube somewhere

Basically you take plastic wrap and rubber band it after pulling it real tight and then lay the fabric over it and rubber band that real tight then you saturate the fabric with glue, (Fabritact works best) and let it dry keep adding glue and letting it dry till it get stiff then you take it off the head and trim it how you want reshape if needed and then glue the hair on and trim after your done. You can glue the wig right on the head if you want or hold it on with a pin or little velcro squares.

I used the above mentioned method to make Ruby's wig and as you can see it turned out rather well the wig cost me a total of $3 to make
