Recipes for home made Kitty treats?
« on: October 22, 2012, 04:03:35 PM »
My kitty Jarvis seems under the weather right now. I'm allergic to fleas and Jarvi has them. His gum color looks good and he's been bathed and treated, but for a kitten only a few months old, he just doesn't seem active. He's going to the vet next month for his vaccinations and neutering, but in the man time, I want to cheer him up with some home made kitty treats!

Does anyone have any recipes that they're tried that works?

I do not, but for the kitty I hope someone else does!!

In the meantime, crochet a toy ball with fluff and a bell inside !! Maybe sprinkle some catnip in/on it! Haha that's what I do :) or some good chin scratches

I hope he feels better and I'm sure you'll be able to cheer him up!! :enthralled:

I dunno about treats, but a sachet of catnip always seems to cheer a kitty up.  :)

I'm not sure about cats or if it would work him being very young, but my dogs are on pills for fleas/ticks and heartworms. They get a pill once a month, and it more or less destroys them.

You might try joining Caster (lol I have accounts on Dogster for my kiddos). They have a very nice pet community and groups to join ect. You might get some nice cat tips there on the forums. ^.^

I don't mean to alarm but if he has or has had fleas it is very possible he could have tapeworm too. For a very young kitten to be acting as if he's feeling under the weather it could be possibly caused by a number of other problems as well. My best advice would be to get him to a vet asap and explain how he is acting and about the flea problem.

Not at all, thank you for saying so! But I have a cat for over a decade that had serious health problems. Tapes worms that wouldn't go away, half blind, a chronic unstoppable cold... I was at the vet a lot for that cat and spent a fortune on him, my little Ace of Hearts... <3

That being said, I've been taking care of the fleas with a few baths and now treatments. I've been closely inspecting his stools for tape worms. To be honest, I think the fleas were numerous and hidden in his thick fur :( Two days later after the treatment, today, he's rampaging the house! I think now that nothings feasting on his blood he's starting to perk up!

I think I will get him to the vet sooner than later to be safe on your recommendation because you're right, there could be other issues I can't see. I'm sure I can work something out with my vet to see my cat even if I can't pay in full atm.

 Thanks for your concern and practical advise, I really appreciate it!

Ok, define under the weather.  Is your kitten eatting normally? Is it just a lack of activity?

Im not en expert and im not a vet, but ive seen what happens when young kitties get sick like that..my friends cat wasnt fortunate so hearing about this kind of sends me up in alarms <3

I would take your kitty to the vet asap, these are triggers that can lead to something more serious then just fleas, and depending ont he age of the kitty, they may be more at risk for things.

As far as treats go, there are plenty of them online for dogs..im sure there are just as many for cats, too.  Just take in mind things they can and cant process because I think its a bit different :)

well, maybe its nothing bad, but in case, i still would visit the vet, because your little one is still young. ;)
i had a book with a few recipees, but its gone now. all i can remember is a kind of chicken soup and something with chicken-hearts.
chickenhearts should be very good for cats, even my vet said that. ^^

Thank you everyone for you suggestions and concerns <3

By under the weather, I mean he sleeps a lot. He plays rarely, and though he's getting bigger, I don't think he weighs as much as he should. I can't seem to entice him to play.

He's sleeping again. I got hopeful when he was rampaging around the house but it looks like he's resting again. I'm going to call my vet in a few moments and try to work out something for him so I can take him in. Others I've asked irl said he's just mellow, and he's acting normal, but he's just not acting quite right to me. Anyways I feel better about my instincts coming here and seeing others agree with me <3
