Can someone explain comic book subscriptions?

I'm confused so you go to your local comic book store and just tell them I want to subscribe?

That's pretty much how it works at least for my friends who subscribe. In the shop I'm used to, they take your name and such, and you get a little folder/tab in this box and they just file away the comics you've subscribed to for you to come pick up whenever. I don't know if it's the same everywhere else though.

The guy at my comic book store told me I'd have to order 10 of each variant cover if I wanted one. Yeah, no thanks.

I've subscribed to various Archie titles for like the past decade. I used to just fill out the sub in the back of the comic, but now I just go to their site, and order online, and they mail the comics to me monthly. And it's STILL cheaper then buying them at the store.

Actually it's kinda funny, Archie screwed up my renewal and I didn't get ANY comics for 4 months straight (16 comics!), so I emailed them politely explaining it that I was shorted comics and they apologized, and a week later I got a package with every single book I was missing! They said the order was there, but was never processed, and sent me all the books (plus all the newest releases) immediately.  No hassle or anything, which is why I've been loyal to them since I was little.

Yup...apparently that's the minimum order for the shop, so if they don't place it, your shop won't have the variant covers. He suggested that I sell the extras on eBay, but I don't have the time or sanity to list and mail out that many comics, not to mention my initial cost, so I told him no thanks, I'd just buy the variants on eBay.

This is what I think about when subscribing.  I used to do that with Sonic the Hedgehog^^

Have no clue, but it seems like you got some good input.  I've never subscribed to any publication.

At the shops here you just go in, give them your name and the titles you want, and then every month they'll put them back for you.  If you subscribe to several at a time, some shops offer discounts. A subscription doesn't guarantee the variant covers though, so be sure to tell them exactly what you want.  The guy at the shop I went to flipped his screen around to show me what was available, and we went by that!

Haha I still do! Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Universe, Megaman, and Life with Archie. What's crazy is I still buy them on my iPad the day their released so I can read them right away, then have a hard copy for my collections. XD

Yeah, same here. Getting them in the mail was great since I didn't have a local comic store. And Archie was great about sending me one that I missed when they messed up my subscription too!
