Dirty Argie pony (update)
« on: September 13, 2012, 11:35:44 AM »
I got one of my Argies I've been waiting for in today, and I don't have time to give her a massive scrub currently. I did pop her head off and wipe her down with a magic eraser, and I gave her insides a once over. She has those weird deep pores it looks like that are dirty, but on the inside. How in the world can I get at those? I used a tooth brush to scrub and hot water, but no success. I know in the cleaning threads before there were suggestions of warm water and nail scrubbing. I can do that on her spots on the outside, but my fingers are big. I cannot get inside her body to scrub. Should I just clean her out and not worry about it? Should I worry about her hanging with my other Argies if her insides are gross?

Alright so after many many oxiyclean workings Parasol finally looks a lot better. ^.^ I've managed to clean out the visible pores on her legs and most of her insides are finally clean looking. She still has some down in her feet that I cannot properly reach. Should I just leave those? Will she be alright if I leave them or will she spread something to the others?

Another question. This Parasol is one of the few Argies I've bought that actually still has her hair really. It's cut a little, but def not enough to warrant rehairing her. When I got her the hair was still a bit rough. I started using conditioner on it and letting it even sit overnight some. Some of the hair is showing drastic improvement and some not so much. The other day while brushing it out one section of the hair that was in bad shape (the green strip her her forehead) just broke off.  I knew that part was in bad condition but wow! I've kind of been tugging on her head to see if any other sections are so weak as to break.   Is it common for that to happen? I want to save as much of the hair as I can and just have to replace the few plugs that really need it. I cannot go from her tail to get a bit of hair since it's actually what someone cut up before I got her. It looks like parts of the tail might be missing so that will not work.

Any better treatments I could provide her to help save the hair?

Side Note: While cleaning her I took the tail out and then threw her hair over the side of the bowl. It shouldn't have caused damage to the hair that I know of since I avoided submerging it in products other than conditioner and water all that I could. Any hair salvaging suggestions would be helpful. I'll just sigh if all her hair falls out. That would be my luck. :yikes:

do they look like blackheads? Most of my argies have had that "pindot" look to them. All I do is put them in boiling water with some baking soda and scrub the ever loving bajeezus out of them, repeat as necessary. Sometimes boiling water and then CAREFULLY going over the spots with acetone and a cotton swab will do the trick too!

;3; How do I get it from the inside though? Any suggestions on how to scrub her insides? My fingers are too big and the toothbrush is having trouble getting those corners.

Elu: I can scrub the fire out of them and get heads off now? Except a few, might have decapitated one the other day.

Yep that looks like pindot to me! Stickin' em in boiling water should open the pores of the plastic enough that somoe of it might loosen up without even having to scrub!!! Toothbrush and cotton swabs are gonna be the bext way to go, but you can also use a crappy, beat up paintbrush too! Or a bottle brush!

try and get hold of a childs tooth brush as the head will be smaller ;)

i also like to fill the pony with very hot water and add a spot of bleach ;) then i leave it to sit for a while.

sometimes the spots do leave stains inside, but after the hot water and bleach it shouldn't spread or jump to another pony.

I was going to suggest a toothbrush meant for braces. They do not have a back, round small head  with stiff  bristles. They are long and flexible, and may be able to reach into those feet. You should be able to find them in the toothbrush section.

Other than that, I cannot contribute much.  Good luck!

There are some straw brushes that I've found that work well for getting inside a pony:
http://www.amazon.com/Brushtech-Sports-Bottle-Washing-B23C/dp/B000QD5GAA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349541343&sr=8-1&keywords=straw+brush
http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Browns-Natural-Cleaning-Brush/dp/B0006BAJN6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1349541343&sr=8-2&keywords=straw+brush

THe first one has a longer handle. I have the second set (from the kids) and the handles bend.

THey also sound a little like the braces brushes.

GOod luck! I hate pindot! It's a pain.
 >_<^.^

I am also trying to do this. I also got a baby argie and her insides look indeed hoorible. From the outside she looks fine, but the feet on the inside are jsut to narrow to reach :(
