UK variant hat
« on: September 20, 2012, 01:26:23 PM »
I just got my second UK variant princess in the mail today (thank you Applejackgirl!) and I'm a bit puzzled by her hat. It's a standard yellow damsel hat with silver moons and stars, but rather than a pink ribbon with gold trim, it has a pale blue ribbon with silver trim. I seem to recall a discussion about silver-trimmed ribbons (in damsel hats specifically) some years ago, but Google isn't helping me out here. Any ideas? I'm positive it's silver and not faded. It's tied in there with the same knot my regular Princess Starburst hat has as well.

(If anyone's curious, it's the Princess Starburst variant with Princess Sunbeam's symbol, pinkish coral hair with blue tinsel but no tail. She's gorgeous!)

Thanks!

Oh! Was that the one recently on ebay? I was bidding on it, but forgot to bid higher!

There's  not a lot of concrete information about Princess variant hats. Only one has been found MIB, and one Bobbie (who also came with a hat). Bobbie's hat does indeed have plain ribbons and the glittery symbols and also comes with no elastic, but can't be sure on the other princess variant as the pics I have are too poor :( I did also get a Princess Variant (Ruby with white hair) with hat and ribbon, and again the ribbons were plain, but the symbols were not glittery. I've collected five in all that I believe to be variant hats, and all have plain ribbons, but the symbols are a mix of glittery and no.

The conversation about silver trim I think was in relation to German variants/issue? Not positive on that.

There's a LOT of inconsistency in the princess/happy tail variants and what they came with (I'm including the happy tails in with it because Bobbie came with a hat in a princess box). We only have those two in box to work from and they are VASTLY different, so I don't doubt the possibility that there could be silver trimmed ones as well! The one thing that seems to be consistent (so far) is the lack of original elastic, though often some has been added by a thoughtful parent, and in one of my cases they'd used the ribbon instead! Does yours have original looking elastic?
