oops Update: No worries now
« on: September 09, 2012, 04:58:42 PM »
EDIT: Seller didn't remove my bid, but I was outbid anyway, so breathing a sigh of relief! Thanks to those who helped out below  :)

Ok... this is totally my dumb-ass mistake.  I've placed a bid on an active overseas auction (ebay), and suddenly realised that the seller doesn't have paypal (the auction states bank transfer, which I believe incurs fees).

Are sellers able to remove bids on their ebay auctions? I've asked politely (and very apologetically) if this can be done. I'm hoping they'll be ok with it; they gave me a quote for shipping, so maybe they didn't realise either? The auction is also currently sitting very low, so it's not like I've bid mega bucks pushing the price up just yet!

Of course if they don't remove my bid, I'll just have to suck it up and deal with it. I hardly ever win ebay auctions, but it would be typical if this was the one time I did lol!  Trying not to be panic stations just yet  :lookround:  Due to time zones I don't know when I'll get an answer from them, and the auction finishes overnight for me.

I don't see why not. Just a simple mistake
That's why under payments make sure you look to see Paypal. :>
I hope everything goes well!  :flow:

Yes, you can retract your bids for various reasons but someone else will have to give you instructions on how, as I haven't used Ebay in so long...

Thank you both

I've just had a good rummage on ebay, and it looks as though I can retract my bid, but only for a couple of reasons, which my silly mistake doesn't come under!  :lookround:  For me I'll have to rely on the seller, so hopefully she comes through!

So daft. I normally always check the payment options, for this very reason!! Talk about impulse bid!!

Appreciate your responses, so thanks, again  :)

You've got a couple options...

It sounds like it's too late to remove the bid yourself as if it's close to the end I think you have to remove it within a certain amount of time. If there are MORE than 12 hours before the listing ends you can cancel it yourself though. Here is the info on it from eBay:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bid-retract.html
<edit> Even though your mistake isn't listed it's better to just cancel it using whatever reason rather than let the auction end and then have to mess with things later.

If it ends in less than 12 hours and the seller doesn't cancel and you still want the item you could always Paypal someone on the Arena who lives in the same country and they could do the bank transfer for you assuming that the seller will ship to you.

Or you could do a mutual cancellation after the auction is over, that way the seller gets their fees back and everything and you don't get hit with a non-paying bidder. http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/cancel-transaction-process.html#cancel

Thanks, Emery - those are some good suggestions!

I don't think I'll attempt to personally retract my bid.... my reason to do so is not under their conditions, and I wouldn't feel right not being completely honest about it   My error at the end of the day  :(  I do however like your suggestion of finding someone in the same country who might be able to do a transfer for me. If it ends up that I have to go through with it, I will investigate that option  :)

Ugh. I do feel terrible about this! I'm not trying to back out of the auction - I'd really like the ponies in it! I just feel so stupid not checking those payment options first. Who knows. If the seller doesn't pull back my bid, then maybe I'll get outbid - it happens often enough!

Glad that it all worked out for you!  At least the ponies aren't worth that much to you, as clearly they are worth more to someone else!  :D

Lol!  And re the ponies worth - well... it was a lovely little auction   Such a bummer having to factor in international shipping costs - which has a big influence on how much I bid!  Still... yes... was glad to be outbid on it!
