A: the flocking always looks grubby to me.

B: they look a MILLION times better without it. Underneath the fuzz the colours are so vibrant, here's a Ribbon I deflocked:

I never have cared much for the SS ponies, personally. I certainly prefer them in my collection deflocked. However I still cringe at the idea of a mint or even an okay condition SS being deflocked because I know lots of collectors like them!

I love so soft/flocked ponies - they're one of my favorite sets.  There's something very special about a mint so soft to me.  :)

That said, a so soft with icky flocking or yellowed glue (or combination) is defi definitely a reason to deflock - and deflocked ponies are lovely as well.  Plus, one people just prefer them.   :)

I personally dislike flocked ponies. They always look so dull. Besides that, they are twenty years old and I can just imagine how much crap hides inside that fur. But that's excatly why I wouldn't by mint condition So Softs, I would have to deflock them anyway and it's a bit of a waste knowing that there are people who like them.

I love my original collection's So Softs - I have very plushy Lofty, North Star, Wind Whistler, Truly, Ribbon, Shady, Cupcake, and Scrumptious from when I was younger - but aside from a Buttons I bought and totally lucked out with (she was gorgeous!), most of the So Softs I find are either mangy looking from loss of flocking, or their flocking is so worn down that they're barely even soft any more. :(  If I can save them, I do, but I've deflocked five now and given them that "second lease on life" thing... and they look pretty without their fuzz, too. ^.^  I don't think I'd ever deflock my original girls, though, unless they either seriously yellow out or spontaneously lose chunks of their fluff or something.  I like patting their muzzles, it's (sorta kinda) close to a real horse's velvety nose. ^.^

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html
