A question about Jasco and deflocking
« on: September 05, 2012, 02:50:52 PM »
I'm working on a deflocking project, and am at the stage where I need to get the glue off of the pony. Everyone says to use acetone on the majority of the pony, then Jasco on the symbols, blush, etc. My question is, why not use Jasco on the entire pony? Is it more expensive, or sold in smaller quantities or something?
Oh, one more question: my dad says we have some paint thinner in the garage I can try. Is that a good idea? Obviously I couldn't use it on the painted parts, but could it work on the rest of the pony?
Thanks for reading! I'll post pics when I'm totally done (but that might be a while!)
I'll put something here some time

I actually use Jasco for the entire pony myself. It's pretty harsh, but it does the job pretty well.

Acetone is defiantly not as harsh as Jasco, and you don't need rubber gloves or an open window when using it :)

You do have to be careful with Jasco on the paint, it *can* strip it (afterall it is a varnish remover). Don't let it sit too long on the painted parts, it's better to do several lighter and shorter sessions on the paint than one longer one that can remove the flocking in one try.

Oh, and bumping over to customs for you :)

I don't use Jasco at all

I use Acetone and rubbing alcohol

I actually use acetone even over the symbols, it'll take the flocking off without taking the paint off if you're REALLY careful and don't remove all the glue with it but use it just enough to get the flocking off, then use rubbing alcohol and a lot of elbow grease to get the glue off. I don't recommend it until you've practiced on bait so softs to get the feel for how much you can use over the symbols though because one small mistake or getting it too wet will take the paint right off, I've made the mistake a couple times.

I can't use the jasco because I have no place with proper ventilation to go and the last thing I want to do is make my neighbors think I'm even more weird by sitting in the grass of my apartment complex using Jasco on ponies XD

Also, some paint strippers like Jasco can discolour certain ponies like Best Wishes, Twist, etc.
Looking for: Alternate Birthflowers, Baity wingers, So softs - both minty and for deflocking - and DREAM BEAUTIES!

Hm. Discolor, eh? Is there a chance of discoloration with Wind Whistler, do you think? And while I'm asking, how about Cupcake? He's probably going to need a deflock someday, too.

Jasco does alter Wind Whistler's color a bit. But if you use it on the entire pony, and get the color even then it looks good.
