Ebay seller issue, this one is kind of weird
« on: September 04, 2012, 12:45:20 PM »
I'd like to kinda say first off I've really never had an issue with Ebay sellers before. Few times items did get here ect, but otherwise my luck has been decent. It's new to me to have a complaint to ask about. I got a Nirvana recently off Ebay, and I was pretty happy to get her despite her flaws. There are just two things that bother me.

One the girl has head/body mismatch. I looked over the pictures again, and I cannot for the life of me see it in the pictures. The lighting is a bit different on the pictures, but I also feel bad since the seller other than this did mention all the girls other flaws. I do not think this was something intentional on her part.

My biggest thing is that she was sent in some sort of perfumed box. It's incredibly strong (I don't do well with smells and scents). I keep coughing, had to take the box out to the trash. I'm currently cleaning the girl, but touching whatever this is has me broke out in a rash. Is this something I should mention to the seller this perfumed box? It kinda sounds silly when I say it out loud to myself, but at the same time there are people with worse allergy tolerances than myself. I cannot imagine how sick someone else my get. My wife has an inhaler she uses when certain things trigger her asthma, and she left to go in the other room while I clean them. I've actually stopped and looking for a pair of gloves to try and keep this rash from getting worse. @_@

I'd mention the box to the seller in a polite message. Probably he/she thought it would be a nice thing to do to perfume the pony, and has no idea that it could be dangerous for some people.  Probably if you pointed out that not only do some people hate scented ponies (like me), but some people in fact have severe allergies to perfume (I'd say getting a rash just from touching a toy is pretty severe!), then he/she will be apologetic and not do it anymore.  If you let the seller know what you two went through and caused her to stop scenting the ponies, you'd be doing her other customers a favor, too!
As for the mismatched head: Maybe you could say something like, "I understand that a toy this old is going to have problems, I'm not looking for any refunds nor planning to give negative feedback, but many pony collectors consider a mismatched head to be a serious flaw, so perhaps you might want to mention it next time you sell a toy with that issue." I have no idea if the seller was trying to hide the flaw or if she was just uninformed. (unfortunately, it's probably the former. What uninformed collector would have their hands on a nirvana?) But either way, it's probably more trouble than it's worth to raise a stink about it. (See what I did there? :D)
I'll put something here some time

I would definitely send your seller a polite message about the perfume. She may have thought it was a nice touch and didn't think that it could possibly make someone very sick.  :(  I know I do not have any major allergies but some perfumes make me gag.

And I do not see any harm in asking about the mismatched head and body. It may have been just an oversite on her part if she mentioned all it's other flaws. But you won't know unless you ask right?

It's not a scented one it's Nightlight, and it's actually something about the box itself. It's some nice pretty decorated box. I tried to see if it maybe had perfume in it before or if she did it to the box, but I couldn't get the shipping label off to see.

*hugs*  I'm glad you have been pretty fortunate with your ebay buys until now. Sorry to hear you have had issues with this one though .
I guess it could have been a box that once contained perfume or bubble bath or body lotions.. y'know that sort of thing - those can be pretty heavily scented still ages after the product was removed. Other than that she might have put scent in there to make the box smell nice ... either way, politely messaging her about that is the right thing to do. I'm sure she wouldnt want this to happen again and there are many people with allergies these days ;)  .

The head/body mismatch - is  it major? obvious?   the seller could have missed it if she looked at it in certain light (eg, false light, rather than natural light)  if it wasnt. If she took care to mention other flaws it seems unlikely that she would deliberately try and hide this one.  Has your seller sold many other ponies? if she is not a collector she may be unaware that this is quite a serious flaw that needs to be mentioned. If she is a collector then she needs to check a little more carefully before listing her ponies  :awake:
Its fine to mention this to your seller since it will help her with her future sales and customers.

Start your message by saying something positve about the purchase - was it sent super quick, are you really happy to have this pony in your collection etc?  This starts things off on a good note and will ease the seller into the next part.  Then politely add something like  NoPonySpecial suggested or alternatively something like this   (in your own words of course - you might not naturally word things the same way as me or NPS - these are just some ideas ;)
"  however there were a few things I thought I should mention to you.  Firstly the pony's head/body were different colors. I know you made a lot of effort to describe the pony and its other flaws , and I really appreciate that, but head and body mismatch is considered a serious flaw by some collectors and can effect the ponies value , so while I do not want a refund/return, I thought I would let you know incase you have other ponies to sell in the future.
Also the box the pony came in was heavily scented .  While the scent was nice, unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to it. There are quite a few other pony collectors I know that have allergies too, so I thought it best to let you know..."
Then end the message on a positive note too. Hopefully your seller will respond in a positive way .
Let us know how it goes

Well no matter what, bring up the issues to the seller. It's important that she has a chance to fix it and she knows that there is a problem.

Sorry to hear about the smell - it can be removed with some efforts.  Definitely stay in contact with your seller; looks like you've got great advice so far.

@_@ that woulda been like instant death for me if I had gotten that and opened the box. Can you PM me which seller that is on Ebay so I can keep that in mind? I have an extreme allergy to perfumes @_@
