Tips for taking photographs of customs?
« on: August 30, 2012, 03:01:59 PM »
I need to take some better photos of customs for my blog (link in sig!) whilst I'm busy updating it! I still have 20 or so customs (made by me or owned by me) to put on, but a few that are already on there could do with better photos as well.

My camera has all kinds of settings (Finepix AX245w) so I'm sure that it can help me get it right! Incidentally if you've sent me a custom and have some pictures you'd like me to use, just say! :)

How do you get decent photos of your customs?

I recommend using the macro feature ( usually alittle flower icon) it helps pic up details. I use natural sun light or if doing indoors which lately I have been, I use an ott lite for my lighting needs.

I have a simple little sony cybershot.

I use a custom setting that I programmed in, but basically use macro like said previously, NEVER USE FLASH, and see about making a makeshift lightbox. Mine is two pieces of white bristol (the "floor", and background), and a desk lamp from ikea with a movable arm that I can re-position to get the light where I want it.

I also do touchups in photoshop real quick, which are usually just doing an auto-adjust on tone and color to get the image as close to real life as possible (or to remove yellowing from indoor light), as well as adjusting brightness and contrast. I'm a night-owl, so I never seem to take pictures when the sun is still bright LOL
