Distribution information on G4 boxes??
« on: August 29, 2012, 06:23:50 PM »
Lately i have received a few MIB G4 ponies from America (i'm in Australia), only to find the distribution information on the bottom of the boxes is for Australia and New Zealand.
Its particularly baffling, as the Zecora i only just received from the US has the Australian distribution information. I not even sure if Zecora was ever intended to be released here??

Or is this on every package? Ive only received 3 or 4 things MIB from America.

But there is another twist, the Skywishes sets i have been buying in store, have European information. So anyone have any clues on how they divvy up the distribution information?

I've not seen Hasbro doing this with their stuff (the Malaysian Hasbro branch isn't listed on the box at all, but usually a sticker with the Malaysian branch address would be affixed on the toys sold in Malaysia). However, allegedly Singapore has their own Hasbro now, but they still receive toys with Hasbro Malaysia's stickers on them. But yes, I've noticed that some toys have distrubution information for US and Australia, others have information for US only. And Australia supposedly gets European packaging toys proper.

I was wondering about that! I don't know about how they decide which packages have what, but I think the Australia/NZ info is on a lot or all of the ponies in America...it's on all the ones I've bought, anyways.

I noticed several of my ponies were apparently meant for Australia when I was unboxing on Monday. Not all of them were - several had Canadian information - but several, yes.

The thing to remember is that although Hasbro is one giant corporation it largely works as individual companies in certain territories. Each "company" has the right to commission its own products for market or to "buy" products from other Hasbro "companies".

More often than not there is an obvious divide Hasbro US and then Hasbro Europe/Aus & NZ. The latter being smaller have always have close sourcing relationships since as far back as G1 when Hasbro Aus bought a lot of the latter Euro lines from Hasbro UK.

We have seen a lot of evidence of this separate organisation with G4. Blind bags are a Hasbro Europe/Aus & NZ concept and product - they were not going to be "purchased" by Hasbro US for their market but popularity has forced the change. SkyWishes and Star Swirl are also Hasbro Europe/Aus & NZ ponies - Hasbro US confirmed they dont really know anything about either of these ponies and had no intention of bringing them to the US line as they were the "property of a different territory". They may still take these characters as Hasbro Europe/Aus & NZ has gone to the effort to establish the toy but they are not the providence or creation of Hasbro US. Therefore the distribution information on packages could well refer to the Hasbro where the concept/toy came from - think of all the Hasbro UK branded ponies that you got in Aus & NZ in the 80s/90s its the same idea. The grand exception to all these rules is Canada which seems to source from both locations but then also has repackaging done of the product - repackaging for its territory is unique as it cant just be English but only requires the addition of one language to cover its territory.

For similar reasons this is why in in Europe and Aus & NZ we see multi language packs - what one territory gets the other will tend to get and multi language means only one packaging required.

As to Zecora - she only has a confirmed US release thats not to say she wont turn up elsewhere just that currently she has only been confirmed as US. By distribution information do you mean Hasbro's Aus/NZs address are included as well as other countries? This does suggest she will be getting a release outside the States - clearly the packaging has been prepared to fit in several territories.
