How to add wings to a Flutter mold without wing slots?
« on: August 25, 2012, 03:32:26 PM »
So for the custom pony I'm making for my swap partner, I bought a bait Flutter that had already been started. Somehow I didn't notice that she'd have her wing area completely removed and filled in. It looks great, but I really would like to give this girl some wings.

The wings I plan on doing will be made of the type of thin plastic from a 2 liter soda bottle and will be in the shape of leaves. If you'd like to have a look at her (she's nearly done apart from the wings) I suppose I could post a pic, but since it will be a surprise to someone here, I'm reluctant to do so.

If the filled in area looks good, I would suggest cutting two tiny slits, one on each side, underneath where the gal was filled in.  That way, you can keep the nice filled in area.

It does look really good-- thanks for the suggestion, by the way. I'd say the only way you could tell there was anything there once is if you already knew, based on the mold!

I also thought about the idea of having the wings as one piece (like Winger wings) and securing them in the middle with an inconspicuous pin that could be painted over, but it'd have to be a really little, petite one. Hmm.

That's a good idea, is the filled in area soft?  If it's hard clay, I doubt a pin would go in, but if it feels soft, like pony plastic, that might be the best solution!

Both sound like really great ideas, I'd love to know how you get on. Can't wait to see pictures of your custom :D
