Hair styling frustration
« on: July 25, 2012, 08:05:50 PM »
I'm on the verge of finishing my winger custom.... however.... Styling her hair is driving me NUTS :pullhair: I wanted to do something other than the curls I do but the two styles I attempted have failed... well at least one of them did.

One style requires no pins, no rubber bands, nothing to hold the hair... what holds the hair IS the hair. I did this on my FS Twilight Sparkle and after some frustration got it to work. It's pretty much taking the forelock and thatching it (or just crisscrossing the plugs), take the two sides and bring them around the ears and crisscrossing them in the back, take a section of the mane and kind of do a Topsy-tail over the crossed forelock sections, then Topsy-tailing that same section again back over the same area...

This has not been working so well with the winger because of the shorter ears and less hair than the FS pony...

The other style is similar to what I did with this girl when I first started: Click Here. Pretty much thatching forelock and bringing it around the ears and to the back of the head, but having a 3rd section of the forelock come around and wrap/tie around the two sections while the whole thing kind of loops over a twist...

The problem with this? I don't want to stick pearl pins in her head... Tried tying with invisible thread but it hasn't worked that way orz...

So now I'm looking for suggestions... I might try my second idea again but instead of a small twist section like in the photo of the black custom, do a larger twist since wingers have less of a mane than most ponies.. at least the pose I'm doing has less mane x.x

Would a dab of well-placed glue help?  If you went with water based it should be able to be washed out if needed.

I don't like using glue on styling hair XD Thanks for the suggestion though

You could always try heat setting it. It may help it hold better. What about using a hair stick and a bun, like girls do with chop sticks or pencils when they want their hair up

I'll look into that, though the problem for me will be the tail of the twist XD I'll have to look for something to see if I can get it to stay put
