How do I take out a Sea Pony weight?

I have one that is in super bad condition and she has mold and mildew trapped around and under the weight. I think I need to take it out, since I cannot seem to get it all hardly. Is there a way for me to take the weight out? Also is there something I can use as a weight to put back in there? @_@

I have never personally done this myself, but I guess you could try using HOT water to loosen the glue a bit and soften the plastic, then pull it out with pliers. I know that they are kept in place with a huge chunk of glue, so they are pretty much stuck there good and tight.
