I almost never wear makeup, except for when I'm going on a night out. Even then, it's not very OTT, just the basic concealer/foundation/powder trio, bit of blush (although at the moment I'm using a lip gloss as blush, lol), then mascara and liquid eyeliner. If I'm feeling really dangerous, maybe some eyeshadow.
I wore makeup every day when I was at school/Sixth Form. I got horribly bullied, as a lot of people do, about my appearance, so when I was allowed to wear makeup I went all out! I even experimented with neon eyeshadows with awful consequences *shudder*. Nowadays, I don't wear it because I hate the way it feels on my skin. Plus, it means I have to get up earlier in the morning to do it!
The feminist in me rails against makeup, really. I've seen artists do AMAZING things with it, but I don't see why a lot of women feel it's part of their daily wear, even just to run down to the shops for some milk! I get odd looks when I'm asked about it and I say I don't really think it's necessary for everyday wear. Why have women been taught that they're not pretty when they're not wearing a faceful of slap?
Not to do any of you makeup wearing ladies down, obviously. It's totally cool if you enjoy wearing it, it's just the mindset that we MUST because we're female that confuses me.
