Moving to Dayton!
« on: July 26, 2012, 05:02:41 AM »
Hubby got a new job in Miamisburg, a suburb of Dayton.  We're going to be moving there very soon!  Hooray!  I'm so excited about this.

But, we don't know anything about Dayton.  I'm hoping there are some awesome people here who can help us out. What area should we look for an apartment in? What areas should we avoid? Do you know of any houses/condos for rent?  What's the name of a local newspaper that we can look in for rental opportunities?

:frolic: Thanks for any help!  I'm so excited to be closer to my Cinni pony peeps

I'm from Dayton - I live with my dad in Springboro and I'm currently working in Miamisburg. Are you joining a consulting or software development company by any chance?

My recommendations - if you can afford it, Springboro, Centerville and Beavercreek are the richest, nicest cities and are all decent distances from Miamisburg. If you would rather be closer to Cincy, Westchester is really nice too. Don't live in downtown Dayton and be careful about Trotwood. Miamisburg is actually a really nice city and it's awesome being so close to the mall (the Dayton mall is there).

My fiancee and I just bought a house in Moraine - a really cute starter home in a decent neighborhood that's right off of 75. So that's an option too. We also looked at houses 50-80k in Englewood, Kettering, Franklin. Those are all mid-priced cities, I'd say.

Uh...if you have any more specific questions I can try to answer :)

I agree! I live in Kettering and it's pretty nice here.  Some areas have section 8 housing or are right on the Dayton border and aren't as nice, and never live next to a rental property.  But I am familiar with Centerville and Beavercreek they cost more but are quite nice.  Oakwood is nice too. I would not live in trotwood or downtown dayton.  It's much cheaper but there are many problems to overcome.

Here in Kettering there is a lot in the 80-100k house range.  I think my Gram's house in Beavercreek is more like 180k.
