Shipping?
« on: July 06, 2012, 09:00:23 PM »
I'm gonna be shipping for the first time soon and I wanted to know what y'all use to ship your customs. I've had bait shipped to me in those bubble wrap envelopes before but I would think that would be hard on the hair f a custom.
So what do you use and how much does it cost?

For the smaller ponies, bubble envelopes are fine.

For larger or MIB/delicate ponies, I would use a box with lots of packing!

I NEVER ship customs in bubble mailers. I always use boxes.

Never wrap in newspaper it makes me want to cry to see customs get ruined this way. I've also had poor luck with packing peanuts. Bubble wrap and a box unless it's just a repaint and hair then I think bubble mailer would probably work. I usually use boxes myself but sometimes I make them a cardboard wedge and stick that into an envelope.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

I get the small $0.49 cardboard mailing boxes from Walmart.  I think that they're 5"x5" and are perfect for mailing out my customs.  I wrap them in white tissue paper and pad them with whatever else I may have for padding, be it bubble wrap or more tissue paper.

Wrap customs carefully and individually :) I would use a box too.

i get a smallish box, usually from a supermarket or pound shop and put a layer of bubble wrap on the bottom put the pony in and fill bubble wrap arround them and make sure the lid fits on tight then i wrap the box in packaging paper, address and post. (i usually shake my pony in the box gently to see that there is no movement before i wrap it in paper, this re
assures me that it will be safe on its journey)
Im in the uk so i don't know how the prices will compare but it depends on the size and weight.
To post without tracking it usually costs me up to about £3-£5i sh, give or take and with tracking, depending where in the world its going to, can cost £10-£15

I have had customs come to me in bubble mailers and arrive broken - not sculpting, but the pony's whole head came off. And the curls were smashed. Soo yeah. Boxes. Please. Always boxes.

I wrap them carefully in a little ziplock bag (to protect from bugs, water, etc) and then put them in a box with foam or paper or bubble wrap to protect it.  Customs don't seem to fare well in bubble mailers.  It's ok for bait, but you wouldn't want your hard work trashed.

hmm. I also wouldn't opt for the bubble mailer. I've had packages come to me that have been broken open / stolen out of. So I always use a box. As someone said, there's cheap ones at walmart.

As for wrapping ponies, I wrap them in a ton of bubble wrap in multiple directions so they don't slip out of it, then I stuff the rest of the box with newspaper so the contents of the box don't move.
The G1 color-change hair set is my grail. Currently own: Mainsail, Seaflower, Shoreline

This is for a g3, I put the pony into a ziplock bag, then wrap bubble wrap around it. It goes into a small box, then that box gets padded with larger bubblewrap and goes into the next size box. I always make sure there's no movement in either box.
G4s I have only shipped two and have also put them in a ziplock then wrapped in bubble wrap but have used a bubble mailer. I need to smaller boxes to properly fit g4s and don't plan on using bubble mailers once I find them.
