advice on boy hair.

This isn't for an actual custom, but one of my needle felt ponies.  I need to make a pony like this

But with hair more like this

How on earth am I gonna make dolly hair do that?  Should I just tell the commissioner that it would be easier for me to sculpt it with wool, or can it be done?

Honestly, I think sculpting with wool would look better.  But have you considered alternative hair like eyelash yarn, feathers, floss, etc?  The textures can work better for different boy styles.  Let me do a quick da search.

enchantress41580 does some really nice work with eyelash yarn (am I allowed to link it even though it's not mine?) http://browse.deviantart.com/?order=9&q=my+little+pony+custom+boy&offset=120#/d3e2u19

Here is one I did with feathers http://ember-lacewing.deviantart.com/gallery/32180721#/d4p3910

colorscapesart did a great yarn hair http://browse.deviantart.com/?order=9&q=my+little+pony+custom+yarn&offset=24#/d2lwegk

I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

Thanks Sarah!  Maybe I should just ask if it's OK, I know I could do it with wool for sure.  Thing is that I ordered dolly hair 'cause I thought it's what was wanted and now  I don't know if it's possible to do that style with DH...I just did another pony that had pretty unique hair and I had a lot of trouble with it, so now I'm worried.

I hope it's OK to link those, 'cause the pics I linked weren't mine .  It's not like we're trying to claim them as our own.

There are these ones that are kinda similar.  I don't know who did them, I found them on LJ and no credits.  If you did these, can you please help me?

The hair on those customs might be mohair?  That could work for you, it's fluffy enough.

Mohair is not normally fluffy though, at least not what I used to do model horses with.  You could tease it though to get it that way.

I think doing it all in Felt would be great.
