Okay, so, aside from being a pony nut, I'm also a huge TMNT nut as well, and with the new Nick TMNT series coming soon AND season 3 of MLP, well, let's just say my inner geek is having the time of her life. And something I can't seem to shake from my thoughts is how unbelievably awesome it would be to make custom MLP based after the four turtles...and maybe Splinter too. But! What types of ponies to use! Should they all be basic earth ponies? Or should I mix it up a bit...for example:

Donatello: I feel like he'd probably be a unicorn, as he's often shown as the least violent and a bit more sophisticated, which fits the unicorn idea so well for me. Not to mention his fascination with technology rings true for me that unicorns are a bit ahead of the game with their magic when it comes to exploring new ideas.

Raphael: He'd probably be best suited as an earth pony, as they seem to focus the most on their stamina, strength, and basic good old fashioned hard work and loyalty. If that doesn't fit Raph to a T, then I don't know what does.

Mikey and Leo give me some issues, I'm thinking Mikey best as a pegasus due to their emphasis on speed and agility, not to mention pegasi always seem the most light-hearted of the ponies for me, but then that leaves Leo out in the cold (and I won't make him a alicorn since, if anyone were to be reincarnated as such it would definitely be Master Splinter).

Sooo...lame idea? Maybe so, but dude, am I stoked

Hmm...I'd probably make them all earth ponies, but I like your train of thought too. Mikey as a peg is good. Leonardo, as the wise, calm leader would be a good unicorn, I think. Raphael as the lone earth pony might be kinda sad, but he is kinda the odd man out, so perhaps it fits...

Good luck, I can't wait too see what you come up with. Donatello is my favorite so make sure you give him extra special treatment! LOL

Lol, Donatello is my fave, too! I vaguely remember my TMNT action figures riding on the backs of my Big Brother ponies when I was a kid. I think making them all big bro earth ponies would be cool.
