So called "free Listing"
« on: June 09, 2012, 11:03:26 AM »
I am noticing something...I have a few auction items I am watching this week.  The oddest thing is when I click on "see sellers other items" I notice that several of the listings are gone from that search when there were no BIN's and 5 days left.  I always save my favorite auctions to watch them from explorers favorites section though in case I forget what seller has them.  When I grab them from my 'favorites" section on the explorer browser they show up as active listings.  You just can't find them under the sellers name.  Like yesterday I saw a seller who had 15 items for sale only have 3 show up.  Then this morning all 15 showed up for an hour and then we were back to three again this afternoon.  I think that free listing doesn't really mean you will get much exposure.  Why else would so many auctions not show up from one day to the next on seller's accounts?  The auctions are obviously not over by any means...nor are they cancelled by the seller... but you can't even find them on certain days.  Sometimes you can't find them during the busiest part of the day.

So yea you decide as a seller to sell on the "free days" but how much exposure are you actually getting?  I put an item up for sale and it didn't show up on my account for almost 24 hours.  Then the next day it did, but the third day it wasn't showing up again.  This all started when free listing started.  What do you think? Am I odd to think that this is done on purpose to decrease the exposure on items for sale that had free listing?

"Your listing will be posted on eBay and can be viewed in My eBay. Your listing may not be immediately searchable by keyword or category for several hours (or up to 24 hours in some circumstances), so eBay can't guarantee exact listing durations. Where your listing appears in search and browse results may be based on certain factors including listing format, title, bidding activity, end time, keywords, price and shipping cost, feedback, and detailed seller ratings. You can read more about where your listings appear in search and browse results in eBay'"

Do you think what you are experiencing, has something to do with this disclaimer? (I imagine it shows up everytime you list an item).

That said , it's not because it is a free listing. Over all, ebay wants to make money, and if the listing is free, well, that doesn't make them money-- they would get the money when the item sells.

And it is known that if you go above and b

For my account maybe (and I know all about those rules and disclaimers) but what is going on with this other seller is odd and doesn't fit into that category since his or her stuff has been up for days.

That's very odd. I don't know why it wouldn't show up once it's already been listed.

So you're saying it was up and then the items disappeared?

In other news, I've heard that when there are free listing days sales go down for sellers since many times the results become saturated with Chinese penny listings.

Could they maybe have revised the listings and it took some time for them to show up again?

I was wondering this also, although it would not surprise me if ebay did something sneaky like that with free listings.

It could also just be a glitch as ebay is changing things around to roll out there newest seller updates for July.
