de-carding
« on: June 02, 2012, 11:04:09 AM »
I have a few G3 MOCs that I'd like to de-card, but I don't want to damage the cards in the process...does anyone have any tips?

I've thought about using a blowdryer to apply heat to the adhesive to see if it loosens up a bit.

I haven't really decarded a g3 carefully before so I'm not sure of the best way to do it. If you can't get the glue loose you might have to just gently slide the blade of a pair of scissors gently under the edge of the plastic bubble :)

I use exacto blades when I carefully need to cut stuff open.. (^^ But most of the time I'm a rip open type of person).

Its not as tough to negotiate as G4, but in honesty I have not yet been able to wrestle a G3 from her packaging without  messing up her hair!

Do you mean you dont want to damage the front of the card where the bubble is glued to the backcard?

Exactly! :) I don't want to inadvertently rip the paper that coats the card.  (I'm dealing with bubble packaging here, rather than boxes.)

Oh that really is a toughy then...I am not certain I have ever seen a successful solution because the glue often penetrates right though the top layer of the paper [where the print is] to the card underneath - thats why sometimes the colours of the ink look a little darker.

I think you are right your best shot would be too see if you can almost melt the glue so that the bubble "slides" out of position but this would leave you with a residual line where the bubble was on the card and I would also not be certain if it would certainly work or not...worth a shot though!

You could cut out behind the pony on three sides, like a door, slip her out, then push it back into place? I presume the bubble would hide the cuts.

I always just slice the plastic bubble off as close as I can to the card when I need to de-card things. Again, you can leave one side uncut like a door.
